[help] Decisions

I'm getting my pBook in a few days, after exactly one day after Panther is released.

I haven't made up my mind to go for the 15" 1GHz or 1.25GHz? I know I probably won't be needing the DVD-R or the Airport Extreme. (but maybe I'll need Airport Extreme later when I go overseas to study). But I'd really like to illuminated keyboard and the extra clock speed and the extra 256mb ram (I'll be broke after I get the mac) and the extra 20 gigs HD space. So what should I get? FYI, the 1.25Ghz config cost a lot more.

And should I get AppleCare right away or wait a year when the warranty ends?

Um, another thing, what's with the logic board and faulty batteries I see so much on mac forums? Cos my mom will freak if she sees the 10 grand computer she bought crashes when booting the first time.

And yet another thing, do you think the pBook will last for 5 years?

If I were you, I'd buy a 12'powerbook, it's really improved (1Ghz)

Extra storage either in the form of HD capacity or DVD-R is always helpful.

Haven't seen either machines, so I can't tell, but the illuminated keyboard looks yummy! (expensively yummy, maybe)

And yet another thing, do you think the pBook will last for 5 years?

I bought my PC 1,5 years ago and when I look at new PCs and new prices I feel a bit sad about the money I paid back then. But that's inevitable!

In 5 years time your pBook may not be able to handle new power-demanding software (Mac OS XII etc.) but it all depends on what you intend to use it for.

I've read about the Dreaded White Spots on the 15" AluBooks. But I don't it'll be a problem. If I have any problem with it, Apple will probably replace mine with a new one. Cos I don't think Apple has many (if not any) Apple Repair Centres here in my country. ...I don't think Apple has much stock either, macs are almost rare here.

The worst thing that could happen is they sent my pBook to Singapore for repairs (I'm in Malaysia) and I'll have to wait a month or so till it gets back. Or I'll have to wait till they get newer powerbooks where the problems have been fixed for replacement.
