i always see people here that say WMP sucks, but i just cant understand why 
i think its fast, the plugin support is great, it manages the library the best way, and the sound quality is damn good.
the only bad thing in WMP is some missing stuff in the skinning engine.
what else do you think WMP lacks?
or do you just hate it because its a Microsoft product?
its not 'snapy' on my system. Sometimes i have to wait up to 25 seconds for it to switch to switch to skin mode. Not to mention that the maximised mode is ugly and you cant skin it.

Windows Media Player 9 is free player. Microsoft's WMP9 SDK is packed with resources :own:
1. It's a really strong player.
2. It plays just about any format except (.mov, but who cares?)
3. Built on the windows media 9 encoder what more could you want?
4. Because its made by microsoft I know it good (Y)

RealONE is alright, but for all that you get free with WMP9 you have to pay for in RealOne
Winamp sucks (in my opinion) its to plain no matter what skin you use

I like pretty much all players, WMP, QCD, iTunes (I like it on mac, but I have 56k so I can't download it 4 windows) and I love Winamp. WMP is pretty good, but for some reason (Microsoft) version 9 has more features on Windows XP ( ). I really love Winamp because of the Crossfading Plug-In in version 2.x, and I have version 1.x and 3. Just thought I'd drop my two cents in.

Yes, it is true.
MS added that to the EULA, and it says you give Microsoft (or anyone they allow) the right to go into your computer anytime they think you have illegal music.
Keeping in mind that even ripping music from a CD you own is illegal (in the US).

When you scan your PC you will find surprisely that WMP has 2 spywares installed on your system and giving everybody access to all your files

Well, (dont want to sound blasphemic here) im using WMP9 to rip songs in mp3 format for itunes, you knwo why? cause it still gives me ALBUM ART hehehe.. thats for all im going to use it until automatic albumart comes with itunes CDDB coverage.
the question is - if you remove these via s&d, will WMP work without them?
yes, i works, ive removed those from my computer , give it a go guys... its not that bad... anyway, as stated above, after iTunes, the only thing i need WMP for is to rip my cds... otherwise im pretty happy with iTunes!
I should really stop posting i woke up early to study for my exam in 2 and a half hours... and this is what im doing... SHAME ON ME hehehehe...

Well I have to disagree with the quality of sound from WMP9. It is not that great. The sound from QCD and iTunes is better. WMP9 always has volume issues with my system and it is slow to load files and that’s on a 2GHz system with 1.5gigs of RAM. I only use it when I have to. As for ripping CDs I use the old tried and true AudioCatalyst. Its sound quality is better than any ripper I have tried including WinAmp. Songs ripped with it sound even good on bad MP3 software and hardware players. Its all a matter of taste of course.
Now about the spyware thing. Yes its there and it can be disabled. We do not need Microsoft nosing around our systems. They do enough prying into our lives by making us activate Windows XP and every other dam piece of software they make. If it wasn't for the high res icons and skinning in Windows XP, I would probably move to the newer BeOS called Zeta. Alas I just can't afford the $100 bucks right now to make the transition. Then I will only be using XP for Gaming purposes.
wmp was my default player before itunes. i dont like winamp coz its too small. i lke wmp coz it looks good n full screen mode looks nice

Just as impulseman, ive had volume issues with WMP, but as soon as a DL DFX for WMP9 they went away (plus there has always been the wow booster or whatever that is called!).
Anyway, to my not so expert ears(im not one of those guys that will spend 6000 dollars on a sound set up(well maybe if i could aford it hahaha)) itunes with its equaliizer (and specifically the ability to set equlizing preset to every genre withouth havin got change it by song) sounds a lot better than any other player i have tried...
I must say tough that im not too disapointed with WMP, they did a good job i believe.. IMO iTUnes is better but some people might think otherwise.
About memory hogging ive noticed teh same memory consumption with WMP and itunes on a average... even winamp when loading all my music would go up tp 28mb of ram usage...

complete horsecrap.
Read the DMCA some time ripping a cd you legally own to your computer is completely legal under fair use.
