Whats Your Dock Size

Viewing the december desktop thread, I've noticed people either using gigantic sizes for their docks (128px or more) or people using tiny dock sizes (32px or less)

I personally cant see how the first group of people work with such a gigantic dock. Doesnt it take up too much real estate? Or is the dock only that size to impress others when they view your screenshot?

I personally have my dock at a conservative 38px with a 80px magnification. I'm always in 1280x1024 (my LCD's native res) and this seems to be the best use of real estate.

I also am always using autohide.

So what sizes do you use?

And if you use a gigantic size, why?

Yeah. i agree, i think most people use autohide or will eventually use it. The dock blocks portions of the screen when you maximize it. I wonder if the next realease of Yz dock, or any dock, make the dock at like the taskbar. where there is an area thats reserved for the dock. it'd be cool that way. I, myself use a quite small dock, without magnification, and with autohide. I don't use magnification because of the choppyness in Y'z dock compared to Objectdock

Hi,

Some of us have large monitors, so we can afford the screen real estate.

/me whips out his 19" ;)

Also with a program like WindowFX 2.0, one can reserve a portion of the screen that will be used for maximized windows. It's a nice feature to have, it saves me from having to manually resize windows all the time.

Also, since I do a lot of multi-tasking, I do graphics and music, I find having the dock(s) available at *all* times saves me a lot of hassle of constantly searching for the next icon to click.

Peace,

Hi kye,

No, WindowFX really doesn't slow down the computer much at all.

I tend to use the "tri thin" setting for shadowing as I found the others to either be too resource intensive or they weren't visually appealing.

Also, it helps to have a good graphics cards and up to date drivers.

I use a GeForce 400 MX based card here and although it's bit old by gfx card standards, it works well for me.

All the best,

Grusic

ya i like to have the dock pretty mid sized. I personally have decided to stop using the docks right now because i cant stand y'z and moby. I am in love with od but it does not have a pin to desktop feature on it yet so that means that it is always on top. i to use winfx mode though so that when i max my windows they do not cover up my icons. this leaves me with quick access to anything that i need. I believe that you can get winfx with object desktop for like 40 bucks or something like that.
