i like to always keep a console window open in approximatly the bottom quarter of the screen, the entire way across

anyway, with kde, when i left it like that when i logged out, thats how it was when i came back. under gnome it basically keeps the top left hand corner, but goes back to normal size. this is minor on my desktop where i usually just lock the screen when i am gone, but i probably plug my laptop in about twice a day, and its just kinda a pain. im not sure if it would be something to fight with x about, or fight with gnome about. any ideas??
in addition, firebird always starts in a little window in the upper lefthand corner, which is also a bit of a pain. any ideas on that also would be appreciated
