Reshacking "stickies For Windows"

I've been using "Stickies for Windows" for a while now, and I seem to have a problem with changing the systray icon.

The program has a systemtray icon customizing feature built in via the settings dialog, but every time I select a custom icon, the original icon shows up whenever I reboot the program and completely disregards my custom icon choice.

So I decided to try and reshack the icons embedded into the program - no luck! I replaced *every single instance* of the default icon in stickies.exe, including replacing the icons which are distributed as .ico files with the program itself (in the program folder).

As far as I can tell, I managed to wipe the default icon completely from stickies.exe and the stickies folder, and replace it with my own, but for some mysterious reason, the app boots up with the default icon!

Is anyone but me using this program, and has encountered similar behavior, and perhaps knows how to take care of this?

have you tried the dlls and some other files in the folder? the exes sometimes get the icon info from elsewhere....

Dont know about the stickes program since i dont use it but you could give that a shot!

If you an alernatif for the stickies program you can try atnotes. Lots of feature such as alarm, randomly pick colour on new stickies and tranparent......

alang - thanks, although I already checked that program out and came to the conclusion that it was too "loaded" for me - Stickies for windows is VERY minimal, and that's exactly what I'm looking for (well, you can't post a new sticky from the doc. yet.).

Why is it that all sticky notes programs come with revolting yellow pixelated tray icons? hmm?

I've had the same problem. I e-mailed Bret about it (the developer), and he said something like "hmmm that's interesting" and never got back to me. There's a program called PE Explorer out there that I used to hack samurize. My demo ran out for the program, but maybe you could try that out and let us know how it goes. By the way, search the forum for a post by Nate regarding how to hack samurize. It's pretty in-depth, so maybe reshack just doesn't dig deep enough.

mgehrett - I downloaded that program you mentioned, although it doesn't seem to be allowing me to access any additional resources beyond what reshacker does, icon-wise.

then again, I might be looking in the wrong place entirely.

Although if you say that you've encountered this as well, this might mean it's a known bug and hopefully the developer will do something about it for the next release of the program (if there will be one).

Apropo of nothing, I was just wondering, since you use the program - have you found a way to apply a shortcut to a new sticky via the dock?
