Another Aqua-softer's Ibook Breaks

I don't know if Taha has finally had his iBook back yet... I'm praying for a quick resolution of this. Basically I switched it on this afternoon and the screen started to go speckly. I restarted... nothing.

This has been diagnosed as a logic board problem by the Apple KB, and it'll be collected soon.

Less than three months old... I love my iBook to bits and can't wait to have it back, but there's something not right if a component like a logic board dies after three months or less. Hope the repair procedure goes quickly, I've been quoted ten days. At the moment, it's touch or go whether I have the iBook back when my copy of Panther arrives.

Actually, the iBook problem I had was my OWN fault :shy:. I dropped it from a height of 3+ meters.

What happened was a switch got dislocated in the motherboard logic board or whatever. So save yourself the time, the pain and agony and be as specific as possible when you give the computer in for repair.

You have the exact same problem I had, so I'm assuming you/someone else accidentally dropped it, or gave it a good shaking. I recommend you tell the repair guys what you think the problem is and that someone you know had the exact same problem. Also tell them how that guy(me) got it fixed. It should save their time and yours too.

Well I'd not actually done anything to provoke it. It'd been in my bag all day, in a Tucano notebook sleeve thing. It hadn't left my sight, and the only jiggles it would have taken would have been the ones from my bag when cycling into uni this morning.

Apple are coming to collect it, as I called them and this is how it's going to work. I shall put a note inside it though explaining the probable situation, as I'd hate for them to go and replace the screen or something similar. On the phone I mentioned only the screen, but the guy on the phone did ask me if it did actually power up etc. I replied that that the hard drive still spins up ok, and that it makes the Apple blongy noise, and he said something along the lines of (we were speaking in French, so I paraphrase) 'Yes, I thought as much'.

I posted this on Spymac too, and two people have already replied saying that they had the same problem. One thing's for sure - as soon as I get this back, I am getting AppleCare. If it happens after three months, then after a year all hell could break loose.

Thanks for the advice, by the way. If it can save them some time fixing it, it'll be well worth it. I assume yours is back and fixed ok now?

I don't own a MAC so I'm assuming it's a MAC equivalent to Motherboard on the PC side. You don't hear it much because you can't really build your own MAC.

Yeappers, Apple has always refered to thier motherboards as logicboards, goes back to the days of the 'Apple I', so yes they are interchangable descriptions.
