[preview]forthcoming Theme

I got a lot of emails and messages asking me about the gtk2 theme

I was using in the screenshots of some metacity themes I posted. I

intended to release it a long time ago, but things got busy with work, etc...

Anyway, I didn't want to release a theme unless I had done all of the graphics

by hand and had a chance to document the gtkrc file.

So now I am on the verge of releasing my first gtk2 theme, and thought

I'd put out some screenshots for feedback. As with my metacity themes, it

is directly inspired by OS X but doesn't try to reproduce it. The theme is called

`Glossy', and come with a new metacity theme as well.

So here are some shots (there's a link to a full screen shot at the very bottom).

Feedback is needed!

I've been waiting for your theme for a while too, since you seem to be wanting to put a lot of effort into documenting everything. Maybe I'll have some themes to post after you release yours and I can tinker with GTK without getting a massive headache.

im looking forward to this. we don't really have many choices on themes for either gnome, or kde, although there are more for kde. seems like most of the ones i do find aren't of the greatest quality. ive been using grandmasta's panther theme for a while now, and i love it, but it will be nice to have some other options to switch to now and then.

Very new here and to Linux.

Please confirm my hopes that this theme will be for Linux.

I'm using KDE3.1 and it's getting me nicely aquainted with Mandrake 9.2 but OSX theme would really top things off for me.

Okay, I've got a *rough* first release up for download. Grab it at:

Glossy gtk-2 and Metacity theme

This includes the gtk-2 theme and the metacity theme. I still have plenty

of stuff to do; this is not a finished work by any means. I'm releasing a

version now because I'm about to go out of town for work and it's either

now or two weeks from now. Among the various things I have left:

:: Clean up remaining graphics, weed out any that aren't original

(almost all graphics are original now, probably 90%. Apologies

to anyone with uncredited graphics in there, they'll be out

soon!)

:: Fix the icons. I don't like them as they are; I haven't put much time

into thinking about them or making them. There are a few gimp

files in the gtk-2 directory that contain the stock-icon base and layers

with various icons. If anyone feels like making better icons please

be my guest.

:: Finish documenting the gtkrc file! This is nowhere close to done, and

is one of my top priorities. As anyone who has looked around knows,

the only real gtk-2 theming documentation comes from a few lonely

pages in the GTK+ reference manual.

Anyway, have fun with it and post feedback here. It is almost certain that there

are a number of bugs in this, as well, so keep an eye out for those.

Feedback: NICE. Very beautiful, and I want to make it clear that I'm very appreciative of the work you've done. I don't just wanna post the negatives, and sound like 'OMG OMG U MUST FIX THIS' like some ungrateful...person...thing...yeah. :shy:

But anyway.

First Bug Report: Maximized windows without focus still have a green maximize button.

Possible Bug Report: Dunno if these icons are considered stock icons or not, but the History and Bookmark buttons in Epiphany are not changed from default.

Wow, dude, that is the best aqua i have seen in a great while. You need a medal or somthing. It's not possible to do any better than perfection, you got that sh## down!

wow..........

ok. this is really well done.

only bug i have noticed so far is the close button. when you put your cursor over the minimize and max buttons, they get bright, when you put it on the close it barely changes, and i think it actually gets darker by a couple of pixels.

the really killer part to this theme is the button highlights, like the back and forward buttons in a browser, the ok and cancel buttons, etc.. beautiful aqua to it.

You may want to check out the Gno-SX theme done by Grand Masta. As of this posting, the thread should be right underneath this one, or at least on this page. The icon theme he assembled works well with this theme.

What's a great theme. I've never ran across a nice theme like this. I used your theme with customized packs from "Grand_Masta". It's looks hot now.

I am wondering if this can be done. Can we set the backgroup for "nautilus" to strips???

Actually, you don't need a gtk theme to do this, you can do it easily from within nautilus. Under the edit menu in nautilus select "Backgrounds and Emblems". Find a pattern you like under "Patterns" in the window that appears, and drag it to the part of nautilus that you want to change. You can add your own custom patterns by sticking them in the appropriate folder.
