A while ago, someone mentionned something about the open dialog control
Lets say i wanna open a file, well in the open dialog, i get a couple of icons on my left, MY Documents, MY Computer, My Recent Documents and so on...
I don't know why but they don't all fit in the window so i'd like to know if there's a way to remove the My recent Documents icon since i don't use this one...
Anybody knows what i'm talking about???? Heeeelp!!! :cry:
That is referred to as the Places bar. You can download TweakUI. It allows you to choose what folders you want to have in the Places bar. I think there's a registry hack for that as well.
ok, try this:
get tweakui and select the first four folders you want to use.
For the fifth folder you have to write the path to a folder with a really long name, but this folder must really be created somewhere on your disk, doesnt matter where just as long as it has a long name (about 20-30 characters with a few spaces)
close tweakui and now your open dialog should display four folders and the fifth one is hidden and only to be seen if you enlarge the dialog
btw i have my icons set to size 48

edit: doesnt work with office though
and what about the MRU folder whioch is usually the first one?
it seems that were just making it scroll down by putting a long name, so if i use it on MRU folder its going to make everything scroll down... and MRU would still show... right?
Ive managed to remove it in office with this
Open your registry and find the key below, where [version] is the Office version number ("9.0" for Office 2000 and "10.0" for Office XP).Below this key is a series of sub-key representing the items on the Places Bar. Open each item you want to hide and add a new DWORD value named "Show" and set it to "0" to hide that item.
Registry Settings
User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\[version]\Common\Open Find\
Places\StandardPlaces]
Value Name: Show
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = hide, 1 = show)

Hey man, would you save my ass and share tweakUI with me? i tried to download it form Microsoft, but it only works with sp1.. and i dont have sp1!
