Have been playing with ObjectDock (I like it!) for a few days. But what are you guys doing about apps or services that display only in Systray but still need to be accessed (VPN clients, anti-virus programs, etc)? Going back to the task bar seems a little beside the point, no?
A Small Question
Hi,
Right now, and I can only speak for myself really, I think everyone is still using the taskbar in conjunction with the various dock apps.
Until one of the developers comes up with a viable solution that we can all live with, that's all we have at the moment.
Peace,
Grusic
The best choice for that problem (and it is) is ObjectBar. Its not free, but there is a shareware version that just has an annoying popup box. You can get it to JUST display the System Tray, that way theres no clutter, but you still have access to your Programs, plus you can get it to look Aqua and run at a different place from the origional systray.
The most logical approach to this (in my opinion) is to wait for OD and Y'z to implement plug-ins and then attempt to have the plug-in display sys tray tasks.

yea..agree with godpunk, until now there is no prog can replace the powerful full function easy to use windows taskbar besides its ugly view .. ![]()
hope there will be solution someday which integrate the taskbar function with beautiful osx looks
I think it is doable to replace the Taskbar, but is it necessary to do away entirely with the taskbar? Apple has not done away with their taskbar even with the Mac dock so it may have advantages not to do entirely away with it.
1. By having two different components running independently both run faster (since it is not a one app doing 200 things)
2. It may add stability by keeping the code simpler.
3. It may add flexibility by being different separate programs
So having a dock and sometype of a taskbar may actually be better than having a dock that does everything.
Just another view
PS: Do you actually hate the functionality of the Taskbar or just the look ? If it is the look then let's change the look but not do away with it entirely.
