Reshacking Compressed Exes

When opening already compressed exes for reshacking it flags resources as corrupt and editing resources is impossible in that manner.

So i was hoping if there is another way for this type of exes to reshack.

Hope that you can help and thanks in advance.

you need to download UPX (that's the compression most of the times) and unpack those exe's. then you can reshack them like normal exe's :)

if you can't unpack with upx you should ask the developer of the exe for an uncompressed version.

#62649

forgive my ignorance but what is UPX??

i think it's this one, a executable compressor: http://upx.sourceforge.net/

i guess, but i don't know for sure.

Thank you all for your help and replies.

Well it seems that the file "Open-Close CD_Tray" i wanted to reshack wasn't compressed via upx.

As for the e-mailing the author for uncompressed version... i already had e-mailed him/them before posting here asking if there were any method to reshack their program and he/them gave me a negative response.

So i don't know now if i e-mailed again for such a request they might throw something heavy at me. :D

Any way thank you for the help and i may e-mail the author(s) again.

i did that for mediaplayer classic. it works. only problem is that u may get errors trying to recompress a reshacked exe
