My Next Ibook Mod

As most of you know, I modded my iBook about 3 weeks after I got it last March. For those of you who missed it, here it is:

15654mod.jpg

I loved the Gorillaz design, but needless to say, I am a fickle person, and I want a new design. It's too late to talk me into keeping the Gorillaz design, it's long gone. As I write this, my iBook cover is by me on my desk, clear and cleansed of paint.

This where you come in. I can't decide what to paint in there now. I need you to make suggestions for me of what to paint. Any and all suggestions are appreciated, although it would be good to keep in mind that I am a fairly original person, so unorthodox suggestions may appeal to me more. Thanks everyone!

How about a splatter of paint in a corner fading out (the blobs getting smaller), with 'ThemeDock' painted neatly in the same colour as the iBook casing?

I know...

Make it white, with an Apple logo on ;)

Now that's original :6

Even more original - put a Windows logo on it... You'll be the only Mac user to have one on their machine

Seriously, though, what sort of thing are you into, to help narrow down the field a bit?

What about a little graf?

Actually... A graf Apple logo might look quite cool...

a penguin...

Damn you Stevie, I was writing "A Windows logo" just as you posted it.

Seriously, A characature of Bill Gates would rock. :own:

Graffiti would be cool, except for 2 things:

1. I can't do it

2. I have no idea what I'd have written

Also, funny you should mention it, but I almost considered going back to all white. :P

1. Yes you can - the Gorillaz design is graf, albeit fairly simple...

2. Who says it has to say anything? Some of the best graf is just pictures (an album cover, for example - yes, I know it has text on it, but it's not part of it)...

A graf Apple logo would likely look something like a cel shaded one, but possibly with a bit more "funk" added for good measure :P

you might get some ideas from here.

you should get real fauxfur and put it under there

Thanks Taha...I thought about getting a MacSkin, but they were all dumb and expensive. Otherwise I'dve bought one.

i think the white idea is good, something subtle, so it blends in with the apple logo. Or you could just get rid of that, no need to advertise something you already own.

how about something that's noticable at the center and then fades out at the edges.

i think this would look cool if you could work it onto your notebook:

(center it when you paint/apply it so that the chunks are coming off the apple logo, like its a star blowing its load :order: )

or center a drawing like this attached picture and put the logo in the barrel. this one would be 'louder though'. working in the logo is the hard part, cause it will kinda lame anything out because its a company logo taking center focu and who needs that.

without the background this one would fairly easy to do. some sort or fading or washed out background would be good on a notebook.

still, the bill gates with a knife in his head sounds like the most formal arrangement so far. :canadian: :canadian: :canadian:

I found a wallpaper on www.mandolux.com that would look awesome on the iBook, but I'm afraid it's too complex! :( What does everyone think?

:o

I think that'd look amazing.

If you don't do it, I will personally hunt you down and do it myself.

The 1600*1200 of that is now my wallpaper :D

I'd love to have something like that on my PC :shy:

I meant like a mod, not just as a wallpaper >.<

Hey man, that's a good idea...I was trying to think about how this might be done the other day. I figured it could be done using LED's, or some of that neon rope light stuff for car interiors. However, I don't know if either would work, plus I don't want to fry the power supply, so I'm a little cautious. We should do some research (you too Taha! ;))

BTW, I decided on a final design for my iBook...it's a composiite of 2 mandolux desktops. The background of the one I posted earlier was too complex, so I found a simpler version and threw the same text on there. This is what it'll look like:

I'll post pics when it's finished.

@godpunk: I suggest you do the banana image from Velvet Underground's cover, that'll be cool.

How do you paint that design onto your iBook then? Do you need a special paint/process or what?

#62643

I can't wait to see it, Godpunk....

It'll look awesome :D

You just use regular paint, but painting it is a bit difficult. Since I'll be painting the inside of the case (it's clear), everything has to be horizontally flipped so that when looking on the outside, it looks normal. Not only that, I have to paint front to back- in other words, backwards from how you normally do a painting. I'll have to do the colors in front first (in this case the red letters) then the next layer (the light orange swirl things), then comes the main background, a dark orange. I don't know if I explained it well, but that's the best way I can put it.
