A Day ago I reformatted my hard drive and started from scratch. I am trying to set up a broadband connection with thee windows xp wizard. I am connected to the westell modem via usb cable. the reason i didnt use the verizon software is because it kept on giving me error reports and frezing up so i figured i would go with the windows wizard. I get error 769, it says that the specified destination is not reachable. I realized that because the in the properties of the connection it says (under networking) PPPOE point to point protocol over ethernet. Like i said i am using USB so that is why i am getting the error. Is there a protocol that is made for a usb connection. Is there anybody who has a solution?
[help] Setting Up Broadband With Xp
I used to have a USB-based DSL modem (like this one), the way it worked for me was:
First I had to configure/install the modem (just the drivers, I hate my providers' software); that created a new network connection which to the OS appears as a 10 Mbit Ethernet adapter
After that I created a Broadband/DSL network connection using PPPoE over that virtual adapter -- that worked like a charm...
However that modem burned itself out some months ago and has been replaced with one that uses its own dedicated ethernet card and the world is a happier place :canadian:
