hey guys I'm thinking going all out for my next computer
lets just say i have some spare change and yes i could buy a mac but I have so much engineering software that only runs on windows.
ok so here's my question:
i'm thinking about getting dual athlon mp motherboard and 2 athlon mp's
now I heard xp home edition doesn't recognize two cpu's but that xp pro does.
i have also heard that some games have issues with xp pro so can some give me some info.

First of all, Athlon MP Processors r best on WINXP PRO....
2nd... according to my 1yr experiece on winxp pro as a hardcore gamer, WINXP PRO has no problem running any games....(NOT GUARANTEE IN SOME DOS GAME) (Y)
Yes, you'd need to get XP Pro or Linux.
As for games not working with XP Pro, never heard that before.
The MPs are kind of a ripoff though. They are really XPs (in fact, you can use XPs with a hack).
Honestly, you dont need Multiprocessor, it isnt really double the speed. Your money would be better spend on a faster single processor.
Also, go Intel. 
I know its opinion, but from what i've seen, they're faster than their equally "clocked" counterparts (ie. a 2.4Ghz P4 is much faster than a 2400+ Athlon).
But you wont listen, AMD guys never do. <_<
For dual processors, yes Win XP Pro will take advantage of that, however the program also needs to recognize it also. I know Photoshop does, sadly that is the only example I can think off the top of my head. Also, if your doing more of 3D rendering or anything that companies would use servers to do those calculations on, I would suggest on investing in Intel processors because Intel is optimized for higher end processing no matter what anyone says. But if you don't want to spend the money, you could settle for the AMD's.
Actually, the program doesnt have to have anything special programmed to use it. It just wont be able to span both processors. Usually, that doesnt matter though. You can dicatate where threads go, so you can put a CPU intensive task on one processor, and surf the web on the other, for example.
But if the program is threaded, like Photoshop, Maya, etc, then it can use 100% of both CPUs at once.
GLOAT: See, linux is better because every version can do SMP.So there.

hehe actually man i've always liked intel
matter of fact i have an intel pentium 2ghz
also i need twp processors not just for games I use autocad and other math/engineering software. so i really need the number crunching power
i would suggest holding back for a while, AMD and intel are producing chips faster
than we can count, and with AMD raising it up a notch with the Athlon 64 series,
it would be best to wait for Intel response.
Also the prices of the chips are getting lower(with chances of prices getting even lower still on the horizon).
