Hi guys, there's one thing i was especially thinking about:
If you keep your system up to date with Windows Update, how dangerous is it to replace the system files with modded files? Because you might replace the up to date files with modded files of an older date (for example if you installed windows patches newer than SP1 and then you use modded systemfiles for SP1).
What do you think?
I'd say it depends largely on what updates you've installed, really.. I don't do the whole system file thing, so this has never been an issue for me. I prefer keeping my system as up-to-date and secure as microsoft allows it do be, instead of making it look pretty.
If you're really worried about it, you could always get ResHack and replace the icons yourself, in the files you KNOW are up-to-date.
Then, every time you run windowsupdate, if you notice that some of your icons have reverted to normal, that means the file got updated, and you'll have to replace 'em again.
i think restorator allows you to copy over the mods from an older shell32 to a newer one.

i think this is the right one. restorator.
i've never used it, though, and from what i read in another thread, the latest version of restorator has some weird flaw.
