why dont the devolpers here release there software as open source. This would

A. prevent apple from killing projects

B. Help the apps devolp faster, and more bug free, as anyone could lend a little helping hand in debuging.

C. Other people could learn from the projects already made to get a good idea of how to program these types of things. I know i would love to code an aqua related app, but its very difficult to get anything to learn from thats directly related to what im trying to code, eg: ive been looking to code an explorer replacmetn type thing, but have found it extremlky difficult to find code for ANYTHING similar.

B. Not necessarily. Look at the thousands of little buggy projects at freshmeat

Open-sourcing is a lovely idea once the app has reached a certain level of maturity. For example, if we look at Y'z Dock as it was before development was ceased. The actual main function of the dock (ie that of a task launcher) had been achieved, and even surpassed. This would have been a candidate for open-sourcing.

But there's so many apps which aren't at this level yet. To take a piece of software in pre-alpha format and open-source it - what would this achieve? There would be too many seperate ideas of how to take it forward, and it would be a mess.

I don't know if this proverb crossed the Atlantic, but we English have a proverb which applies here.

"Too many cooks spoil the broth."
