How Do You Hack Dlls?

How do you hack DLLs? I wanted to know so that i could make aqua-fied tray icons n stuff. Also,

if u got the time,how do you hack the actual progs? i have visual c++ 6.0. thnx in advace

Well to replace resources in dll files and exe files I use Resource Hacker. It's a free program. Here is the address to download it...
