New Worm!

To all, please read this carefully, since apparently there is a new worm sneaking in people's e-mail boxes and attempt to attack personal computers.

The e-mail takes advantage of recent security issues surfaced in MS Windows XP OS. The e-mail purports to be from Microsoft "MS Program Security Department" and contains the following text in the body:

MS User:

This is the latest version of security update, the "September 2003, Cumulative Patch" update which resolves all known security vulnerabilities affecting MS Internet Explorer, MS Outlook and MS Outlook Express. Install now to continue keeping your computer secure. This update includes the functionality of all previously released patches.

System requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/2000/NT/XP

This update applies to:

- MS Internet Explorer, version 4.01 and later

- MS Outlook, version 8.0 and later

- MS Outlook Express, version 4.01 and later

Recommendation: Customer should install the patch at the earliest opportunity.

The worm uses this "legitimate" appearance to fool users into installation of the attachment, which is a new worm called "Swen", also known technically as I-Worm.Swen, W32/Swen.A@mm, or W32/Gibe@MM.e.

Just to keep in mind one thing when you get these e-mails, MS never distribute updates or patches in this manner.

For those who user anti-virus softwares, please update the virus definition and be protected.

Thanks for all the info. I was just coming here to write a warning about this but you beat me to it!

You gotta hand it to whoever made the worm though, most computer-illiterate people will fall for the spoof microsoft look.

Lol, worms r nothing to call for concern for most Net users... Just a bit of IQ and Common sense would tell you a E-Mail does not install a program for ye! Look, the program title even says "Microsoft Internet" Since when internet was by M$??? Anyways... never use Outlook/Express they sux... all the attachment worms are spread like that -_- Use hotmail and pay a few bucks to get the extra space and you're safe from 90% of the viruses! (Other 10% goes to lame ppl who donwloads those attachments...)

People who r afraid of these worms should be the mail service... they get flood bad yall! :P
