Aqua-Soft ForumsI just got a dsl modem and service with verizon. Its a westell modem and it should have 100 mbps like my aunts does (she has the same config) but mine only has 12 mbps. is there any way i can make it 100 mbps?

go to www.pcpitstop.comrun the tests there, and see what options they give to improve speed. I am on cable, went to one of the sites they recommended downloaded a patch and it doubled my speed

DSL can NOT run at 100Mbps..
that is the speed of the connection between the Modem, and the eithernet card.
when you get 100Mbps, you are using a 10/100 Eithernet Card.
however, if you use a USB connection, you can only get 12Mbps..
the most expensive DSL from verizon is at 1.5Mbps..
which is no where near to the 12Mbps your computer says you are getting..
heck.. a T3 connection, can only get around 45Mbps..
the only way to get 100Mbps is to get an OC3 connection..
which is 30,000 to 50,000 a month..
what you are seeing does not actually tell you the speed..
if you both have DSL, from the same provider, you can be pretty sure, that it's the same speed..
there are no advantages to having it say 100 as apposed to 12mbps...
the only problem, could come if you us Linux (which is hard to get working on a USB DSL Modem)
i think he meant kb not mb. Maybe a typo.

100mbps is the speed of eithernet.
and 12mbps is usb..
if he was only getting 100kbps.. on DSL he should call someone..
as for 12kbps..that would be waaaayyy slow..
on of the Slowest DSL services runs at 256k..
