I've been using Yz Dock for a while and it's been working great. But this morning when I booted up my machine, all my docklets and shortcuts were missing and the dock was empty.
Anyone know why this happened and any way I can retrieve them?
Lost Docklets
that's very weird. i'd check your ini files and see if everything is listed there.
did you try closing and then re-opening the dock? did you make any recent changes? did you ever save it before?
I closed the dock and launched it again and even rebooted. I haven't made any changes to the dock. How do I save it? Do you mean save the .ini? Where's the ini at so I can take a look.
i think saving the dock configuration involves (after you've set it up, of course) close the dock then re-opening it, allowing the program to make changes to the ini files, which are located in the y'z dock folder. there's items.ini for all the items you have, and yzdock.ini for dock-related settings.
also, what version are you using? i remember i lost my dock items once when i was using 0.8.2, so i got 0.8.3 and redid everything, and all is well.
I'm also using 0.8.3
And the items.ini didn't have any of my apps in it. I've already added most of the shortcuts back, I just didn't want to go and have to look up the stuff for My Computer and stuff <_<
TekMonkey, you should be able to just drag items like MyComputer on to YzDock.
hmm, something happened then and it didn't save properly.
anyway, no worries! to add my computer, just drag it onto the dock. what else do you want to add? there are probably shortcuts for those too, no need to look up numbers.
just tell us. ![]()
I've had this before, once. It's weird.
My Computer, My Documents, and Control Panel
the easiest way, i found is this.
my computer: if it's on your desktop, just drag it onto the dock (as was mentioned before).
control panel: if you have tweakui, go through and check the setting so that the control panel appears in my computer. open my computer, then drag the control panel onto the dock. you can always uncheck that setting after.
my documents: go to the location of my documents (usually in documents and settings/etc.), then drag that.
Yeah, that's what I did.
I remember that when I originally added mycomp, mydocs, and ctrlpnl, I had to drag a folder and then change the target. I think I was thinking of an older version of Yz Dock maybe... :shy:
you can still drag and change the target, but you don't always have to.
so i presume everything is working out ok? fantastic!
i'd try closing then re-opening, just to make sure all is well.
 I just booted up again and the dock is empty again. It's not the first time I've booted up since I re-added all my shortcuts, but it's the first time this morning.... ![]()
have you installed any new progz since it started misbehaving?
Nope, I haven't installed anything new. Basicly, it was working fine, I shut off my computer last night, turned it on this morning and logged in, and the dock is in my startup so it came up but with no shortcuts in it.
I had this happen a couple of times before. I have no idea what causes this and it is frustrating!! In the morning I boot up and everything is gone!! Now I keep a backup of my itemlist.ini in my yz's dock folder so I don't have to start from scratch. ![]()
that's true, but that doesn't exlpain why the items disappear in the first place. it's such a weird problem.
i guess that's a good temporary solution, though. good suggestion, converse.
I guess saving the ini isn't too bad if you're like me and keep only progs u use most often. just backup every time u add an object
