[request] Kkmenu Docklet

Just tried this docklet on objectdock and loved it but not the dock, so please can someone if poss translate to y's dock.

#55356

you can use an older version of kkmenu on yzdock, but it doesn't work like a docklet and its not that fast.

#55556

i think osirisx was asking for a docklet version of kkmenu for y'z dock. i think it'd be nice too, since it'd be a lot faster.

#55573

Yup i loved the speed of the docklet, used kkmenu before on y'zdock and found slow..

#55585

;) i second that one

#55609

i 3rd it

#55711

its been 4thed so its offiicial now.

#55712

need it converted to a docklets please

#55742

i`ll ask Jiri if he would want to do it but i wouldn`t hold my breath. >.

#55759

sounds like a worthwhile project. can't wait!

Yes, sir! Sometimes it's even too fast, it opens before I click it, oh, before I even think about clicking it! :D

No, really it's fast!

As promised i mailed Jiri about KkMenu on Yz and here is what he replayed. (I hope he won`t mind me forwarding this)

Alex,

This is the major problem: Unlike the Stardock Object Dock, the Yz

dock only runs on XP. Obviously it is impossible to do the

development for XP without XP (especially debugging). I do not have

XP and I am not going to even install (neither buy) one.

KkMenu is now too good for my needs, so I am wasting my time.

Thus I am going to make the KkMenu being shareware. If people pay

to me then I will continue the development and - to increase the profit

- I may port the KkMenu into Yz.

Jiri.

Looks like we`re out of luck, but if OD 1.0 fix all the bugs it has, Jiri`s KkMenu might convince me to switch back to OD. (Oh why, oh why did Apple have to stop the development of Yz, i`m sure by now we would hv something similar on Yz  )

#55820

isn't it possible to create a similar (though not exact) docklet?

#55827

well i just hope someone will make it for Yz :(

#55829

why not ask one of the developers here? like albeik, gangel, and siwu, and some other developers who've done a great job with docklets.

#55834

Albeik could do it I bet, shareware after we helped find the bugs and gave suggestions that figures

#55839

this is what i hate I mean I'm so used to yz dock then apple forces its development to stop, then all the good stuff starts to appear on OD but its so buggy now what the hell am i supposed to do

sorry rough day in college

well i understand u guys 100% but i also understand Jiri. He spent a lot of time working on KkMenu and i guess he needs the money. But i also think there could be a better way to make some money. Anyway since i`m using Yz i guess i won`t be using KkMenu untill some of our GREAT developers makes one for Yz.

albeik, gangel, and siwu, it`s up to you now. U have out support ;)

That is true. I tried the KKmenu docklet on OD.. it's not really a hard docklet to do (I actually have the code in my mind now), ofcourse, its easier for him to port it to yz, it doesn't really take that long!... but the real issue is the time constraint... i am having hard time to find a free time since school started... I even feel very bad, that I am not giving to the community as I used to...

Moreoever, I have been also thinking that I want to stick with y'z docklets.. and focus on that more as a target.. and everything outside that is just a port... meaning, yz docklets comes first over any other docklet for any other dock... other docklets will be just ports of whatever the yzdocklet version of it...

also, I do understand Jiri's view... though, I don't think I can make a shareware docklet unless its really a complex very useful app... hmm.. maybe like the capture docklet with an option to capture areas on the screen! :P

Just wanted to throw that out.. (been awhile)... ;)

I believe that if Apple did not force Mr Yamaguchi to stop development on Y'z Dock ( ) the program would be much much better than its present state, so much so that it would beat OD n Mobydock.

don't worry too much about it. we were just throwing around an idea for a cool docklet we'd like to see implemented. focus on school and only if you have time and feel like it, work on a docklet or another project. no pressure. :) thanks again for all your hard work, and best of luck in school! i agree with dreamz, concentrate on school and don`t feel bad for not giving much to community. U allready gave much more than i will ever be able to give. (but i`d be great if u could make something like KkMenu for Yz though (Y) )

PS What about starting a petition to Apple to let the development of Yz continue?

#56106

Agree school first the docklets are not going anywhere

#56118

man school's hard enough for me without having to make docklets so albiek don't feel bad about anything even if you don't make another docklet you have already given us so much

:D
