She has 1 gig of Samsung ram and runs like a champ. I just wish there was a way to get her working on my works network. I cant see files, folders or the network. I can get an ip from the Proxy server but cannot see the Windows small business server.
Anyone have any ideas?
On your PC, right-click a drive or folder and go to the sharing tab. Enable sharing and give it a sharing name. Press Alt+R and enter cmd in the dialog. Type ipconfig and note the PC's IP address.
Now on your mac, first go to the Sharing in Sys Prefs and enable Windows sharing.
Also, go to accounts and enable your account to log in from Windows.
Now go to the Connect To.. menu item and enter smb://xxx.xxx.x.x (<--- PC's IP address). It will ask for the username and password. Enter them and you'll see a list of shared folders and drives. Select the one you want and you're done!

Is there a way for me to also get the powerbook to connect to the internet through our work server as well? Presently we all use WindowsXP Pro systems at work and have a username and password which allows us to log onto the network and also access the internet (same login and password for that as well, since not everyone here has access to the internet).
The server at work uses Small Business Server 4.5 and Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 software. This link ( Microsoft notes ) is what I read that had to happen for me to be on the network with my powerbook, but as long as your method uptop works then I do not need to be ON the network to get files as I can move them to the pc's shared folder and get them from there onto my Mac. But if anyone knows how I can access the network from my Mac here at work, I would be very thankful. The admin here doesnt want to risk installing that software onto the network
My 17" powerbook is great except for the fact that the aluminum casing above my latch is peeling off, poor glueing job, and most likely I will need a repair or replacement. Damn Apple for making 2nd rate products!!!! :6 :6 :nuts: :nuts: :rant:

Well, the only way I think would work would be the following:
In Network Preferences, create a New Connection. Edit it and make it use DHCP to connect. It will then allow you to enter a username and password. Enter the company one. Save the connection and apply it.
After creating the connection, you can switch between it and the default connection from the Apple menu > Location.
Let me know if it works.
