Lol, this may sound like a stupid question. But how does everybody make their desktop icons so big?
I want to do that and I chose "Large icons" in the setting property, but they're not that big.
Is there a trick to it? or is there a prog I should use?
ALSO, does anyone know where to get these icons. I remember seeing them somewhere but cant remember, and I've searched loads of icon sites.

Go to the display properties in my Computer....
Settings tab> Advanced> Click the button under the Effects button> in the scroll box, find "icon". And change to 32,16,48, but not 128... WinXP doesnt support it
Windows Xp doesnt have icon smoothing like OS X does....

According to the attached image it seems that the icon sizes is 48x48, this can be done with the aid of Stardock's WindowFX for XP.
As for the higher icon sizes, it can be done with reg hacks/editing.
The icon set is Pixel Feng Shui.

WindowsXP supports 128x128 icons, it even has alpha channels.
To do it, you need to do a registry hack. Its easy, theres a tutorial at www.xicons.com
And there is no such thing as "icon smoothing". The reason OSX icons scale well is because their PNGs, and it uses vector scaling, like the dock.

well I'm using snow e v2 icons.
When I changed the icons to size 60, they looked a bit edgy.
I mean, i didn't need to do a reg hack. I just went to the advanced area and chose the size for my icons. It allowed me to.
I thought Snow e v2 icons supported larger scales. does anybody know a method of enlarging specific icons OR making the icons look smoother?
You cant really increase the icon size to anything larger than native and have them look good.
You'd have to get the creater to create a bigger version.
Because .ICOs are actually a bunch of icons, a 16x16,32x32,64x64, etc, and if you dont have one for the size you choose, it gets pixilated.
But for 128x128 icons, xicons.com is great, and of course, you can convert all your dock PNGs to .ICOs using @icon Sushi, a free program.

To get your icons at 128x128, you need to do a reg hack. XP included the ability, but not a menu choice. 
And for making Icons look smoother, the SVG format supports that. Gnome 2.4 is the first GUI to include it. 
. Its really remarkable. A 32x32 SVG image can be blown up to 256x256 without ANY quality loss.
I swear on my life that it was available to me on a the advanced setting. I just had to input a number.
This computer is brand new as well, only 1 month old (on the market as well). "The new Toshiba Satellite Pro"
Thats probably why I have the ability to do that.

I think you can set the icon size up to 96 using the Advanced Settings. In order to have 128, you'll have to use the registry.

Yeah if you look up I said 60 not 128.
when I searched around for Gnome 2.4 I only found 2.3.7 and a few sites saying that 2.4 hasn't been released yet.
(lol I dont even know what the Gnome program is mainly for)
Icons usually contain 16, 32 and 48 sizes, but you may also find 24, 64, 72, 96 and 128. I've never met any icon size other than the obove.
Try using 64 instead of 60. Sometimes a few pixels can make a difference.

hey there, could someone do me a HUGE favour please.
here is the big picture.
I downloaded the fengshui icons to discover that the windows version only come 48X48. Now I wanted a bigger version.
Those only come in the Mac pack.
Alright, so I downloaded StuffIT so I could open the sit file and then extract the icons into a folder. I've tried a million times but for some reason it will not work on my computer. I keep getting an error.
So could someone please just extract them for me and then zip them up and send them to me?
I really hope someone can help.

I might be nitpicking here... but you said you blew up your icons to 60?
Make sure you put 64 not 60, because if you don't give it a size the icon file has the OS tries to resize it from the nearest size (this also happens if you have the icon set for 64 and the icon only has sizes 128, 48, 32, etc.. the icon looks extremely ugly; also happens if in the advanced display settings you turn up the size of the Caption Buttons -- it screws up your systray icons). So I guess what I'm saying is:
* Make sure you are setting a standard size (16,32,48,64,128)
* Make sure your icon set contains that size

I was able to extract the WinXP icons already.
Since their max size was 48X48
I wanted to download MAC Icons. (The mac version) since they allowed for 128X128
So if you could Extract the mac icons, I would would be extremely greatful
you can use up to 72x72 icons with support without hacking into the registry...just a tidbit of info...
The latest version of Stuffit Expander does not uncompress Mac icon files that well. You'll need an older version, Stuffit 7, which you can download from here.
You'll then need to correctly configure the settings of Stuffit. Firstly, under 'Options' --> 'Cross Platform', ensure the tick boxes are checked as:
Convert Text Files to windows format -> Never
Save Macintosh Files in MacBinary format ->When a file contains a resource fork
Add File Extension -> Add if no extension
Secondly, under the 'Associations' tab make sure you have BinHex encoded files,
Base64/MIME files and Sit archives checked off.
Lastly, under the 'Expand' tab, ensure that you have
(1) 'Expand archives This includes Stuffit, Zip, Arj, Arc, gzip and Private Files archives...
(2) 'Expand encoded files This includes uuencoded, BinHex and Mime files'
and
(3) 'Continue to expand when expansion results is a single file'.
Once everything is set, you can double-click on the sit file and it'll uncompress nicely.
To then convert these Mac icons to Windows ico format, you'll need a program like Axialis Iconworkshop.
As long as you extract the icons without the"Icon_" file, they will convert fine with the newest version of StuffIt. For some reason, that file interferes with the extraction process and you'll get blanks.
