Feature Request - Italk

Multi-protocol is a far way off...however...seeing that the GUI for iTalk is an almost exact replica of iChat...and iChat does NOT support multiple protocols...I need some suggestions on how the interface could look if it did support more than just MSN.  Specifically the Buddy List window.  Currently there is a single drop-down to handle the session status (Available, Busy, etc..).  This isn't really practical with more than one protocol because you might be partially connected (connected to MSN but not to AIM).  This is the kind of stuff I'm talking about.  What do you guys think?

wait...i thought iChat did support MSN and AIM? but still, i would wish i could use it for AIM, i dont use MSN

Jef,

Take a look at GAIM http://gaim.sourceforge.net for some ideas, it basically handles all your accounts as 1, so if for example you set yourself away in MSN will set you away in Yahoo, AIM, MSN, IRC, etc.

When connecting it connects to all your accounts, unless you specify accounts where you want to log in manually. All the buddies are shown on the same window, with different icons depending in the protocol they are using, I do not think that this is neccesary since you only want to know if they are on or not... not what protocol they are using.

Personally I dont think anything should be implemented that is not really in iChat. If iChat does not support multiple protocols, I dont think it should be put in at all. I thought iChat was with AIM? Anyways, thats just my take on it.

AIM!!....make it so u can only sign on to one protocal at a time or do whats suggested above

my 2 cents

Jef, I'm not exactly how you'd implement it into the GUI, but I'd like multi protocol support, too.

Realizing, however, that's to come a little bit farther into the future i'd go for custom buddy icons and/or a full preference dialogue...and while I'm wishing for things, how about object bar integration and some scripting capabilities. That would pretty much rock :)

i'm pretty happy with the current italk... however a more authentic-looking background for the iapp controls would be cool ;)

I would love to see AIM Support in iChat. That is pretty much my only wish at the moment :)

The real ichat uses aim. So the pictures in the list and in the bubble talk are actually the aim buddy icons. I'd like to see italk have aim support. I use miranda-im but I am having to use the jabber protocol to get onto aim. If italk had aim support like ichat then I would use it as my aim client.

IMO having it just on msn kinda defeats the purpose of the icons in the buddy list\bubble talk since those are supposed to be AIM buddy icons.

It seems to me that most people here forget that the real ichat uses AIM.

Also.. italk and the rest of the icontrol apps don't seem to get a drop shadow from Y'z shadow. It would be nice to have an optional shadow setting in it so it'll apply it's own shadow.

Thai Language Support

Seems like most people (including myself) would be happy if, after you finish what you're working on now, you dropped everything and worked on AIM support. At least that way we'd actually use it. I personally never use MSN. I don't know anyone who uses MSN. I'd definitely use iTalk if it supported AIM though.

Support for AIM would be nice, I agree. But, I really think the avatar should be changeable. That would be really cool I think. After those two things I can't think of another thing to make this iChat port closer to the real one; except for the drop shadows. Those would be nice. Other than that it's fine.

Y'z program is ignoring my apps because they use borderless forms....i've sent him an email about t his but he hasn't responded.

Neil at stardock made a mod to WindowFX to show shadows on the Aqua Apps.

Hi jef,

Would you add to communicators list our, Polish small communicator - GADU GADU, here is link: http://www.gadu-gadu.pl/ and here is link to download them: http://www.gadu-gadu.pl/download.asp . You know, I'm from Poland and we have our best communicator and you know, I want to have aqua-looks PC - you did best iTalk program, so I pleased you. Big thanks,

I don't use windowfx2 cause I don't like how it adds a shadow to the bar at top. I like how Y'z shadow doees it better. Plus I didn't like how it had an inactive shadow on the objectbar. And other things about the shadows, the darwin shadows look terrible. Then I downloaded another pack and they didn't have a inactive shadow.

Y'z shadow also needs the feature where it fills in the blank area if the bottom border is curved at the ends.
