[help] What To Do With Neon Green Imac?

Hey peeps. I have this neon green iMac that I got from a source that shall remain nameless. I don't know anything about it other than it has a usb keyboard and one of those matching neon green/clear mice, and a drawer-type cd-rom drive, as opposed to a slot-loading type. I think it's running 8. Can I put os x on it? If so, can I get it for free, since I'm putting it in an elementary school?

Thanks!

I can only guess that your iMac has a G3 processor and although I know little about macs other than using them to work with, I remember that with a G3 we had at a place I worked at, the highest we could go was 9.1.

Anyway, if I'm not mistaken the latest Osx installation discs are DVDs and therefore can only difficultly be installed even on an older model G4 (the only way i can think of is on a network or buying a DVD). Hope to have been of some help

Cheers ;)

Hmmm... Well it could be converted into a pretty looking pc with a mini-itx board and an lcd screen, or we can just sell it for $100

You can install OSX on something as low as a 233Mhz G3, as long as you have enough RAM.

Im betting you could install OSX on it, its just going to be much slower than OS8/9.

My teachers give me free software, just do it... Look at it this way...

Apple still does the teacher program (ithink)....

Mac OS X 10.0 -10.1 64 MB

Mac OS X 10.2 - 10.3 128MB

My iMac comes with 160 MB! and Jaquar

No, they discontinued the teacher program in March or April methinks.

my dad has a g3 iMac, it actually runs OSX (jaguar) pretty smoothly for its age. he still uses the built in os9 emulator (or is it dual boot?) tho for older apps
