Icons: Packages Or Manual Hacking?

What do you think is better? Are there any pros and cons to using icon packages opposed to manually changing each icon?

use IconPackager or a similar program to change the theme, then change individual un-changed icons manually.

yup, it's a lot easier this way, although i do change the shell32 for icons that cannot be changed, e.g. in the classic start menu, toolbar, etc.

well if you change each icon manually you won't need an extra app (icon packager), but it will be harder.

I was asking because I wasn't sure if using a package becasue you need a third party program to apply it. But I guess not. *shrug*

I have a bunch of other icons that I'd like to change since the package didn't. Whats the next best/easiest/least damage possible way to do it? Reshack? Other?

i use iconphile, a free program to change icons. you don't need icon packages, as individual icons will do, and it changes a lot of them. iconphile iconpackager (as mentioned) is another very good app. i think this uses individual icons and icon packages (file name .ip or something right?). icon packages require the specific app for which they were made. icon sets are just collections of icons.

reshacking would be the next best, i think, and it's nice because you can find some good shell32 files floating around, so you can save yourself the time and effort.

I need to learn a way to change all the icons that these programs can't change. Like icons in the classic start menu, etc. Whats the best way?

yeah, i'd use reshack. just tinker around in there and replace icons, but it can take a while. you can also just search around or request specific shell32 files.
