Growl For Windows

Finally the offical Growl has been released for Windows this is just one more step closer to getting Windows looking like OSX.

It's still in the beta phase, and there aren't too many plugin at the moment, but hopefully some of the developers will pick this up real quick.

Check it out here for more information.

Personally I'd like see plugin's for Foobar2000, VLC & uTorrant just for starter. ;)

Snarl's also coming along. Its going at a rather slow development that I've noticed. Hopefully they'll have a better release in the future.

Snarl can be found here

I uninstalled ... Growl was using 68k of memory ... and 27k for system monitor plugin

total used memory = 95k... too much for a notification app...

Neither one has enough plugins to make it worth the effort right now.

The outlook plugin didn't work for me for Outlook 2003, just crashed it, and I agree neither has enough notable plugins that are worth it. But it's still worth checking back for more updates. When snarl/growl for windows can do voice updates for my outlook notifications/tasks/emails and announce the current time and temperature etc.

Basically I'd like voice integration and more plugins before I start testing them out.

Good ideas though

Where does this leave Snarl?

I find it annoying when unnecessary competition comes in. Snarl has a few good supported apps... As long as enogh people get on side it should be great.

And I can't find any evidence of this being an official port/clone(?) of Growl either. No mention of it on Growl for Windows, No mention on the official growl site.

Well, anyway, whichever app turns out more popular, Growl or Snarl should be fantastic. I'm loving Growl on my Mac, so having it on Windows too would be fantastic.

The only thing I have seen so far is at the bottom of the page for the windows version...

Growl for Windows is based on the original Growl - http://growl.info

The Growl name and claw icon are used by permission of The Growl Project.

Growl is definitely a must-have on the Mac, i use it and it's Awesome!

And the idea of having a similar program Windowze is also awesome.

I tried to use the snarl of a time and their only "fault" was the lack of themes.

But now it is no more problem. : D

BTW, I think that Growl For windows a little more Heavy for the system resources and does not have many extensions.

So ... Snarl FTW!
