Reshacking Shell32.dll

hello everybody. i want to take the back and forward buttons from one shell32 and put them in another (e.g. bmp 204). can i just save the bitmaps, copy the buttons, then paste them over the other bitmap and then save as a 24-bit bmp?

also, i notice the backgrounds are black. how does transparency work?

edit: i probably should have put "help" in front, darn. maybe a mod can edit the title if necessary. sorry about that.

These are 32 bit bitmaps. 8 bits are used for the alpha channel.

GIF Movie Gear can do this. I'm sure there are other programs as well.

ok, so i tried it again. extracted the bitmaps using reshacker, edited them in photoshop, and saved as 32-bit bitmaps, but when i tried to replace the bitmaps again in reshacker, i get an error:

Access violation at address 00402791 in module 'Reshacker.exe'. Write of address is 010B9000.

any ideas?

I posted a zip file containing the Explorer bitmaps in PSD format, with transparent background, over here. Maybe it'll come in handy.

the errormessage tells u that u have the wrong size and resolution of the bitmap. edit a toolbar with PS and then open in Gif Movie Gear Icons and export it as a individual file as a 24 bit bitmap with transparency and ---- voila it go's

No problem dreamz. Just remember to save it as a 24bit bitmap.

And you can open PSDs in Gif Movie Gear.

just the back button? all the toolbar buttons are in shell32.dll. just edit the image using reshacker.
