[request][help]outlookxp & Vwm

Edit: this is an old old post, go to my last post to see wtf i'm really talking/asking about.

-------------------------------

First.. I've seen quite a few screenshots now of people who have reshacked their XP VWM powertoy icons. The default green and blue don't fit in with anything. I've asked on every topic where i've seen a SS of the changed ones, but no one ever bother's replying. Help a guy out people. I've seen it done, I know it can be done. I've looked through my Task List, and there's no .exe that looks to me like it's the VWM. I imagine it's some hidden .dll in my win directory.

And to add onto that question, does anyone know where I can get a set of icons for it? Meaning, once you tell me what I need to reshack, could you tell me where a guy could find the icons I keep seeing people use (Black and white, they're in the screenshot of a Metallic theme)

---- Next question

I minimize OutlookXP to the system tray using a regtweak. The system tray icon is gaudly. I've reshacked the Outlook.exe with updated icons. But unfortunately, when it minimizes it still uses the same icon. If you browse to the OfficeXP folder in explorer, OUTLOOK.EXE appears using my reshacked icon. And i've replaced every instance of the icon it uses in the tray, with my updated icon. So i've come to the conclusion that it's using some outside .dll to do it.

Maybe somebody out there has some developer tool that shows them what all .DLL's a .EXE is loading into memory. If they could give me a dump, I can check each .dll's resources 1 by 1. But manually going through the OfficeXP install could take years. Surely another one of my felllow Aqua-soft'ers minimizes their Outlook to the tray, and would love to have it look all sexy like the rest of their icons.

Oh.. and just incase.. I don't use ObjectBar. I think it's slow and not worth the trouble. And no need to tell me to beef my system, It's a 1.6 with almost a gig of RAM. So i'm all good there. I just don't like ObjectBar. Don't like Warez'ing, and don't want to pay for crappy software.

Only reason I mention OB, is because if I've heard right, it can mask your system tray icons.. I want to do it the big boy way.. not with 3rd party software. (:

Thanks for anybody's tips.. !

(I know i'm needy.. but i've searched the forum's, and asked multiple times, and got nothing. so I figured I'd post in this section of the forums.. maybe more of you super h4x0r's read this part).

Ok..

I'm making this topic pretty active, and I'm talking to myself.

Status update.. i found the .dll I need to resource hack.

C:\windows\system32\msvdm.dll

Now all I need is the image to reshack into it.

THANKS!

Me again.

Ya.. i realized noone here gives a damn about lil' o' deleted.

SO.......

If anyone cares the file to reshack in OutlookXP to change your system tray icon is..

C:\program files\Microsoft Office\office10\1033\OUTLLIBR.DLL

It's the 3rd Icon resource.

I just kept dragging dll by dll into reshacker.. if it had Icons, searched them 1 by 1. That damn .dll has some 400+ icons in it. Of course I found what I was looking for right away, but searched every single one before saving and closing it. I now have carpel tunnel. Damn the luck.

Hi,

Just seen this thread now, I've been looking for a way to hack the images on MSVDM for a while!

hi, just saw this thread.

i too have seen those vwm images in screenshots, but no one talks about the images. i guess what you could do is extract the images from the dll, then edit those in photoshop, then re-insert them. or if you could tell us the colors, resolution, etc., maybe someone can make them.

Here's a nice and simple MSVDM replacement bitmap; download here.

Just installed Outlook 2003. Trying to mod it, i've figured out it's the exact same file, but it's a different resource in it.

It's icon group 9782. But, if you replace the resource, it corrupts the .dll.

Anyone had any success reshacking OUTLLIBR.DLL in Office 2003, or wanna give it a shot and tell me what you find?

On another note, how come people always say outlook can't be mod'd? That outllibr.dll contains every image used in outlook, what's so hard about it, other then it's time consuming as hell.
