hey guys- im new to posting here- Can i give you some background/side info first? so, i have been using visual styles for quite some time now, though i still wouldn't consider myself to be acquainted on an advanced level just yet in terms of customizing my computer- (i am running windows xp home sp3)- after applying my theme, i more often than not click the "Advanced" button (under the "Appearance Tab" within the "Display Properties" dialog) so that i can change/tweak a few aspects of the visual style (though there really isn't much you can change, aside from fonts & very few color options).
Ok, in order to obtain even more control over the look of my pc, i decided to download & install "Styler Toolbar" After i installed it without any problems, a little box popped up on my screen saying "Styler is applying your theme, please wait a while" (or something along those lines). After that, i clicked on the Styler icon in my task bar to look over everything that it had, though i didn't want to start messing with it right yet so i kept it as is, which meant that Styler had changed a few elements of my already installed visual style (it changed my tooltips colors to just basic white w/ black text, same with background & text of my message box- and it also changed the fonts, as well as a few minor things here & there.) I left it like that for now- i really didn't feel like messing with it yet. The next 2 or 3 times that i started my laptop up, that box i had mentioned above (Styler applying theme...blah blah blah) appeared- all is normal, etc. I decided finally to revert the visual style elements back to the way they were before Styler had changed them- (remember- it was only a few things- like i had already mentioned, there are only so many aspects of a visual style that you can change with the advanced button)- but regardless, the boring black & white did not match my theme at all. So i went back into Display properties> Appearance> Advanced, and changed back to the colors & fonts i originally had selected. However, it was only short lived, because i just cannot leave my set-up the same for too long. I decided i was sick of looking at it & wanted to change it all again (wallpaper, icons. visual style...etc). I selected a new visual style, changed some things (like i mentioned above, under the appearance tab> advanced button) & clicked "ok". Done. I then decided "ooh! i can play with Styler now too, to match my set-up!" (Is it pathetic that i really did get excited about that? and i really did say "ooh!" out loud?) Anyway, I clicked on the Styler icon in the task bar, but as soon as i tried to select anything on the menu, i suddenly got that error message "Styler has experienced a problem and needs to close...blah blah...do you want to send error report". Hmm, ok, No big deal, considering i do get that message from time to time with various applications. So i tried to run Styler again - again, within seconds, the same error message...third time, same thing....fourth time, again. It just kept crashing. Also, i then noticed that all the adjustments that i had made to my visual style with the advanced button under appearence tab were gone- the visual style was completely back to the way it was originally- the way the artist had it.
So my questions are as follows:
1. Why did Styler work fine until i changed my visual style to something different? In fact, even after switching visual styles it was still working, up until i clicked the Styler taskbar icon and tried to select something from the menu that came up. Or, was that just a coincidence, and is there something else causing it to crash?
2. How can i please please get it to friggin work?
3. Why did Styler's closing affect changes i made to the visual style under Display Properties> Appearance> Advanced? It was almost as if the changes i made there were somehow tied in with, or made under Styler too- like do adjustments made with that advance button register under changes made with Styler as well?
Help! Oh- and please, i apologize for the "wordiness" of this post- i look at other peoples posts and they are seemingly able to get right to the point of their question- i always feel the need to give as much information as possible- i just want to make sure what i am saying is clear & understood. Thanks again in advance for anyone who can help me

this got rather long as well,
haha. So i have come across y'z toolbar & shadow (the new ones) but haven't installed them because, well, i had Styler and wondered if it made sense to have something similar installed- but seeing as Styler isn't even working at this point, i guess it does make sense now to try some of the other apps you mentioned- especially yz toolbar, as it seems to have capabilities similar to Styler toolbar- being able to customize my toolbar is the primary reason for me wanting Styler Toolbar anyway. Plus, a lot of my visual styles also came with Styler Toolbar skins. (is there a way to convert Styler TB themes to be used with YZ TB? Or are they set up completely different?)
