I’ve found somewhere in this forum a small app called VolumeTray by GlorySoft. In my opinion it is the best of the available programs of this kind (or maybe I simply don’t know the better one – I would appreciate any suggestions), as it is quite stable, adds and
1. It adds a system tray icon that reacts to the volume changes;
2. It gives easy access to the Windows’ volume control panels;
3. It consumes much less memory than similar apps;
4. It is very stable;
5. It is skinnable;
6. It can start with Win (I couldn’t do it with Landvermesser’s MacSound, which otherwise is great).
Though it lacks the vertical slider, I use it together with AveScripter OSX Volume and the effect seems to me quite good - I like it more than anything else.
The native Aqua skin looks rather ugly, so I remade it – the zip file below contains “OSX” folder, simply copy it to VolumeTraySkins dir, after reloading the program it will be visible.
The homepage of this project seems to be closed, the app can be still found, but I included it also in the zip.
