Just wondering whether you guys are using the "Hibernation" thingie in windows.
Will it decrease the lifespan of the harddisk or other negative effects?

hmm ... well the only downside in using hybernation is it consumes 512 mb of disk space. but why use hybernate ... your pc in not a bear ![]()
not at all. it's a great feature and if you don't notice system instability then you can use it without rebooting for long weeks.
and your computer starts faster. if you have 128/256MB of RAM it's really fast.
i don't really use hibernation... i use "standby", the feature apple calls "Sleep"... although it consumes 1.7% of the battery per hour, i have the advantage of poping open my laptop's lid and instantly the computer comes alive as i left it the last time... if i want to turn it off, i just close the lid again... and this is all on a dell latitude running XP pro...
Hey I use Hibernate all the time and it never screwed anything up for me.
Hibernate is a good feature, although, if you have a smaller HD, you may want to go for the Stand by/Sleep feature. They are both nice... I have a Stand by button on the top of my keyboard. It's really convientient, Any Windows OS will recogise my specail keys w/ out trouble. ![]()
PS... how ever much RAm you have, thats how big the hibernation file will be.
I think the file is Hiberfil.sys, althouh i could be mistaken...
Cool.. I have enough horsepower and harddrive to hibernate, so it's not really a big deal.
I never thought of having a look at that feature until an article catched my eye yesterday about hibernation he-eh.
useful for notebooks, it is... as for a desktop system - it is a burden usually...
My computer - WinXPPro - must be full of crap and bad drivers because, although it works very fine, I never could use the Sleep, neither Hibernate stuff...
The comp just hangs, and that's all.
Sad me...
Don't tell me about the m$oft testing software. It couldn't help me at all...
My Vaio just doesn't want to go to these modes.... zut !
Maybe my old Epson printer driver, or my old scanner driver, or my old anything driver...
Ideas, Ladies & Guys ?
Thanks.
This is what I always do when my windows start messing around:
FORMAT YOUR COMPUTER AND REINSTALL WINDOWS!!!
You will find how fast your computer is after installing windows from fresh ![]()
Downloading the latest drivers of everything also helps.
