I'm having a problem adjusting my windows task bar. Somehow it became about twice the height it was originally. I can make it larger, but not any smaller (without making it disappear). I already tried right-clicking on the task bar and making sure "lock the taskbar" was unchecked. Any ideas?

Eh, things can sometimes get finicky. Try moving the taskbar to another side of the screen, and then resizing it. Then, move it back. Alternatively, you could restart and see if you have any luck.

When I try to drag the task bar to either side of the screen all it will do is get larger or smaller. I've tried this several times already. I also tried restarting for a second time with no results either. Any other ideas out there I can try?

When you go to the taskbar properties make sure that auto-unhide is unchecked and that lock the taskbar is checked

do you have windowsblinds on?
or is your taskbar skinned?
if it is, then reapplying the skin from windowsblinds fixes the proble,m
I agree with fobm4ster, maybe the sink that you're using has a bug, try using other theme.
I don't have any skins downloaded for my taskbar. It's just the standard blue color (Windows XP). I'm not ecactly sure what a windowsblind is...is that some form of a skin? Excuse me for the computer illiteracy...but appreciate all the help!

If you haven't applied any skins/themes to your system or know what windowsblinds, when did the taskbar get bigger?
What were you doing?
Have you tried as system restore to a time prior to the problem? How to do a system restore.
Can you maybe take a screen shot of your desktop to show what problem is?
A friend of mine was using my computer and decided to try dragging the taskbar to the right side of the screen but it wouldn't move to the right...it only enlarged while staying at the bottom of the screen. I know at one time I was able to move it around but decided to keep it at the bottom of the screen and haven't messed around with it since. I just got finished running a full system scan with Norton 360 but it didn't detect any bugs. I'm going to try a system restore now. Thanks for the help. I'll keep everyone posted.

To drag it to another side, try dragging by pressing down the left mouse button exactly where current time is shown. You'll get better results that way.
1) right click on an empty area in the task bar and make sure that
"lock the task bar" isn't checked.
2) click on the very top of the taskbar, hold it, and drag it down.

ok, the problem is probably that you unlocked the taskbar, and somehow the location of stuff like quicklaunch got moved. so try dragging around those little lines with the dots on them until you get it lined up like it was at first. then you should be able to adjust it to it's original size. hope that helps 
you unchecked lock the taskbar. AFter that you can drag the taskbar where you want. Right side, up side, down side (original place.). And for resize, you can closer your mouse and will show arrow up and down.
You can make larger or smaller.
then try to get a theme, apply it and then see if u can resize again

Go to task bar and right click go to properties and check auto hide options or make sure task bar is locked.
