Msstyle using GIMP

Yo, I'm using Stylebuilder to make an Msstyle and everything is going smoothly except for one thing. I'm editing a taskbar image in GIMP (cool program by the way), I'm having trouble making the taskbar transparent. All the tutorials online show how to make an image "deleted" not transparent. Anyone know how I can make my image transparent?

Heres a way get, RealWorldIconEditor 2008, use the trial version but I'll tell how to make it seem its been on your PC for 0 days. In RWIconEditor it can edit icons and images of any file type. First save your taskbar image w/no transparency what so ever in a PNG file (if you can't save it as BMP). Then open it w/RW, in the menubar click Effect then transparency. Fiddle w/it and see how it goes. If you decide to use RWIconEditor tell me and I'll tell you how to make the evaluation clock go back to day1.

depends on what file format you want.

in GIMP, if you are playing around with a clear image, you can use the Eraser tool but use the slider to control the level of opacity. then save the image as a 32-bit rgba .bmp or .tga or .png etc
