External Drive Or External Enclosure?

I need some HD to cary data (movies and etc) to and from my freind`s PC so i`m thinking about 2 solutions.

1. USB/FireWire portable HDD

2. Since i have a useless HD allready, buy and USB/FireWire enclosure for it

What r ur thoughts? I`m sick of opening my PC case whenever i need to exchange some data (can`t use HD rack, midi tower full) and i allready hv a HD but those enclosures r so expensive!

So buy an external drive (probably 3.5, don`t need those fancy, expencive 2.5 ones) or buy an enclosure?

I would go w/ the non-enclosour thing.... You know what I mean, I might be wrong, but I think there maybe compatibility problems.
