I got this weird problem with my xbox. With Fable II, GTAIV, Rainbow Six Vegas I/II... I have a very weird video problem. During gameplay, the display is BORKED. There's this funky spiraling effect, everything is RED, and the image is terrible garbled.
BUT! this only happens on gameplay. My Dashboard is perfectly fine, start menus in the game, pause screens, achievement/friend notifications are all fine. So what's going on? :mad:

Least thats what happened with my elite this summer.
O_O That's... 90% of what it looks like. Although, I took out the hard drive -- games worked fine. Put my friend's hard drive in -- games worked fine. Called up microsoft, two indians hung up on me twice... So I don't know what to do...
I also deleted the memory of Fable II (*whimpers*), and voila, it worked! No garbling... until I got into town to see the magic box for the first time... then it started again (right after the game saved!)
So I'm thinking hard drive.
Wait. 360 has no inbuilt save storage?

That happened to me when I was playing the demo of Mirror's Edge, all the colors messed up all of a sudden.
Now when I turn it on theres one red light and I get error # E74
I tried the possible solutions but they dont work...

We got the same problem Timan.
But apparently one light is not covered by the extended 3 year warranty, the funny thing is that before this happened to my console, a day earlier the 3 lights came on, now just one.
Microsoft screwed me there xDD

its a real shame.
part of the attraction to consoles was the plug and play element, they just worked...
now- they're continually upgrading them with bigger hard drives, and consumers make the choice depending on which chipset is inside the console (the one not prone to overheating)...
Consumers should be able to just buy an xbox or a playstation and know what they're buying... rather than having to sus out its internals.
Consoles are becoming too much like PCs. Soon we'll be updating hardware drivers.
unfortunately, E74 means your graphics chip has gone kaput... thats why your getting all that red stuff. i had a similar problem to mine but was all white
the way i got it to fire up again is to leave it running with a towel over the whole console for about 15 mins then turn it off and take the towels off, then let it cool for about 5 mins and then retry. good luck
consoles 
i had an atari console at 80's after that pacman years i met pc's, like amstrad, hercules and so on..
hate consoles now because of their weird problems that made us call technical support 
The only attraction of consoles for me is not having to worry about shit like RAM and how many CPU cycles are being used in the background and if my antivirus is about to start a system scan, but at least my PC doesn't frigging break.
For christ's sake, it can't be that bad at cooling, it sounds like a jumbo jet taking off!

Or the ANA upscalling chip have a problem !
I see a lots of cases here in Brazil with this particular thing on this issue with the ANA Chip. Here we have the same guaranty of 3yrs for technical issues with the console.
If he contact the M$ service for this problem, maybe he can got this problem resolved because this is an problem with the way that M$ use to soldering the chips (Lead Free)... this make them a quite loss in quality and resistance.
Dont make any mess lyke get the console in " Berzerk Mode" like hot them, to making the soldering soft based before that. It´s a palliative way. Trust me! (3 360´s here with 3RL! =((( )
Contact M$ to resolving...this is a right of him and he can go in search of....with 3RL or not!
Who knows he will receive a new one with that new mobo "Jasper"
