Ok guys I have a laptop given to me by my university that came with XP Professional. Does anyone know how to change from the logon screen 
to the welcome screen.
What I want to do is change how the computer presents the password screen. Instead of using the logon screen with the logon name and password,
I want to change it to the welcome screen with just the password. When I try to change it through the control panel, the setting does not stay. Any suggestions.

Edit: Oh i see what your asking did you and try to remove the password
I believe all you have to do is go to Control Panel and click on "User Accounts". Then click on "Change the way users log on or off". The next screen you have the option for "Use the Welcome screen" which I believe is what you want.
Oh, I just saw that you've attempted to do this but the settings don't stay. My only guess would be that maybe your current account doesn't have administrative rights. Otherwise, it should work.

Ya that should be the solution right there *goes and checks his settings*... ya thats it 
XP Pro has a hidden Administrator Account, I use TweakUI, a Microsoft Powertoy, to make it visible. Unlike the hidden Admin account in XP Home, the one in XP Pro can get online with all the functionality of the other admin accounts. In XP Pro you can change the administrator account name as sell as the Guest account name through Control Panel. Administrative Tools, Local Security Policy, Local Policies, Security Options. Makes it a bit harder for a hacker to knock out your Windows...
