Apps Info

Hey guys,

My Mac-related Queries are:

1. I want to know something about the free apps available instead of buying Office.

Well some one earlier suggested that i use NeoOffice. But i am not completely satisfied with that. So is OpenOffice better, i mean the current version on the site? Is there any other app which is even better than these two. I'd prefer free ones first.

2. I want to burn CDs and DVDs. I do this by making a New Burn Folder, draggin stuff onto it, and then burning it. If there is any app which can do this and saving me the time, then please suggest on that one

NeoOffice is far better than OpenOffice, so realistically if you're not happy with that then you pretty much have to go either the Office or iWork route if you want something better. As for burning CDs/DVDs have a look at Burn ( http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/ ) which is quite neat.

I dont know but when asked before whether office or iwork is better, i got a no. So i guess NeoOffice is the best among the free ones.

Another Question; I am using Adium for my Hotmail/msn chat. Is there any other better app which allows me to audio/video chat? or does iChat support hotmail account?

Oh yeah, I personally much prefer iWork. It's faster to load up and integrates so much more nicely with all the other iLife apps, Aperture etc. Only real downside is that you have to export files out as a Office Document (.doc etc.) if you want to send it to a Windows PC, as it doesn't natively support iWork documents- but if you're like me and only rarely do that then go for it. Half the price of Office, too.

You can use MSN through iChat but I wouldn't advise it. Adium is by far the best Multi-Platform IM client, even if you just use it for MSN. I tried using iChat for MSN a while back and it messed up my Friends List to no end. I for one never really got Video working on my mac with MSN, but to be honest, so in m opinion just grab Skype and tell your friends to use that if you want to do video conferencing. Much better for audio and video quality.

Oh thanks for the info. Sadly some of my work mates are windows users and for us to work in a group, I always have to work in those Office formats. So i guess i will stick with NeoOffice and get used to it.
