iRumors! iPods, iTunes 8, and more.

[newsimg]http://gizmodo.com/assets/images/gizmodo/2008/08/tallanno.jpg[/newsimg]Kevin Rose's Apple crystal ball has been wrong more often than not (he was sorta right about $199 iPhone), but this time he's seen pictures people! ("It looks pretty cool.") He says that not only will the new iPod nano be tall and skinny and giant-screened like we've heard, he says it'll be rounded (like iPhone 3G's ass-side, but all the way around), and even provides this handy rendering. His other rumorage, like a huge iTunes update with for-real new features, is all way more reasonable than his past forecasting, so they're actually possible too!

- Revamp of entire iPod line.

- Small cosmetic changes to Touch, Nano to see significant redesign (see pic below).

- iPods to see fairly large price drops to distance itself from the $199 iPhone.

- iPod touch 2.1 software, iPhone to get update very soon after.

- iTunes 8.0 ("it's a big update w/new features").

- All of this coming in the next 2-3 weeks.

In a way I kinda miss the crazier predictions even if he is more correct now—I liked hoping that at least one of his more outlandish ones was true. And he says more info—with pictures—is coming. Has Kevin finally gotten a rock solid source? [Kevin Rose]

I sure as hell hope I'm not the only one that finds that Nano (?) hideous.

I think that iPod looks very nice actually, very interesting for a future design.

As far as iTunes goes, do we really need NEW features? Honestly all I want iTunes to do is organize my music (which it does very well) and play it, all of which it does at the moment... but, I have a rather large collection (and I'm sure this has something to do with it) but iTunes uses a rediculous amount of resources, and I just upgraded to vista/latest itunes and it runs terribly, usually consuming past 100mb of ram. I would like to see a streamlined/more efficient iTunes, cause I've attempted to use other mp3 players (I used to be a winamp boy), but none of them cut it for me like iTunes does.

I was under the impression that iTunes 8 was already available in Snow Leopard? I wish Apple would just stop forcing their stupid metal skin for it, and Safari and Quicktime.

That iPod is pretty hot, looks very techy and contemporary. Also, hahaha no "Nano Touch".

OMG OMG OMG

That iPod nano is exactly how I imagined it!...

ps- what do you think the new iPod nano will have?

My guesses-

bluetooth headphones and wireless syncing.

New iPod app store.

FM radio and/or transmitter.

Buttons that light up when pressed.

#508026

that nano is bigger than other nanos.

THE HYPOCRITES!

#508033

I don't like this iPod Design :slant:

iTunes 8 would seem reasonable, if you consider the other rumor that Apple will introduce iTunes Unlimited:

-256 Kbps music; highest quality digital music subscription service ever

-50% of U.S. store available for iTunes Unlimited at launch, U.S.-only launch

-Available through iTunes or retail box a la MobileMe, funds applied through iTunes gift cards cannot be used towards subscription purchase

-$129.99 stand-alone or $179.99 with MobileMe, current MobileMe subscribers can add iTunes Unlimited for $99.99

-One-year subscription period

-Current a la carte options unchanged

-When signed in to subscription account, “Buy” is “Get”

-“Download and Play throughout iTunes Unlimited Subscription” or “Buy and Keep”

-“Buy and Keep” option available for downloaded subscription songs, purchased version replaces subscription version

The screen is straight up ugly, and that damned curved body? gtfo.

I fail to see how it even remotely resembles the Creative Zen.

#508094

Doesn't, with that model, at least.

#508095

Or any of the models shown on Wikipedia, apparently.

#508101

lol.

I'm sure I've seen one similar to it, but that was quite some time ago, so maybe they was sense and discontinued it ^_^

#508102

Actually you're right, I don't think it's Creative Zen. I don't remember the name of it... when i remember i'll post it here.

#508103

It dosé not seem very real. It seem like another iPod wannable. But I am very emtionated about iTunes 8. :)

#508106

One moment, iTunes 8, would this mean that there is also going to be a new Multiplugin? :P

#508107

I certainly hope so. I hope iTunes 8 is much faster than the current one; Should ITunes be slow with a 40GB music folder?

Although, I could stand to pare down a bit...:P

#508131

Does anyone find that while on shuffle, iTunes will keep shuffling the same songs?

#508136

I find that with everything, I think it's just in my head :S

I was convinced XKCD was rotating 4 strips :S

#508143

Well seeing the ipod in the picture that looks big and doesnt match to the whole "NANO"' thing. But if its small and near the concept of the current nano or the old nanos then i think .. i love it..:D

I mean it seems kewl. And some guys hate the screen prolly because it came out bad in this picture, but apple wont fit a crappy screen into that. I mean they did a great job upgrading it in the last one. So i think they will continue doing that same great job with the new ones.

But thats just me :P

#508159

it is interesting what will be in the new iTunes...

#508160

my message disappeared :( ... (or i forgot to post? lol)

anyway.I wanted to say this...

I think its a dodgy photo, I like the new nano design, but think the curved screen is questionable... I always imagined the next Nano would return to the "Slim" 2nd gen nano form factor. Except with a bigger screen rotated to fit lengthways to avoid the 3rd gen 'fatty' form factor.

Do you think there will be colours?

The silver and black is kinda sexy tho.

EDIT- Im really excited about the itunes "all you can eat"...errr... "All you can download" music service. Its going to turn many music pirates (*cough* me *cough* ) into legitimate customers.

The main thing that gripes me about purchasing music is that, new music is coming out all the time, and my tastes are always changing... I dont want to have to pay through the nose every single time I want that song!

I would much rather just pay an upfront cost (just like a buffet restaurant, its stress free... no choosing on basis of cost) and be done with it! Whatever it costs... Im quite happy to support the musicians I listen to... but just make it easy for me.
