256MB of RAM is ALL anyone needs! And if you need a 'graphics card' to supplement the rest of your gear, then clearly something is very wrong!
Plus it won't fit on my 5GB hard drive!!

... While im no fan of Vista, I must admit this so called 'experiment' does bring out some good points. Largely that much of the negativity towards Vista is simply hype by people who have not used it.
I have used Vista.
This is what I have to say about it;
Great new features: much needed. For example- index search, The redesigned start menu (Without the annoying cascading menus), search bars in every window, a more human 'address' bar (how often do we type things into that old xp one?), more visual, Better contextualised explorer with useful pane down the bottom.
Annoyances; besides the obvious (incompatible hardware & Software, what do you expect? XP went though the same process)... What really gripes me about vista is the old saying "Don't try to fix it, if aint broke"... For example- The new control panel which makes it 10x harder to find what you're looking for, the batch renaming of files now has a mind of its own... and just general things in explorer dont work how they should or expect them too... WHY? No reason, no new fearture, they just decide to be different, they just decide they dont want to work...
+ Aero... Nice at first, impractical at second, ugly at third, overkill at fourth glance.
+ It feels cluttered with too much stuff, so many features at the finger tips. Useful but its just not streamlined like OS X... They just need to do some triming I think.
+ Dialogues... gah! I hate that damn security advisor, get lost I just want to use my pc! Theres just too many damn dialogues following one after the other... again and again, with thier flashy (but extremely annoying) pop up animations and dim screen feature. GAHH! GO AWAY!
XP is nice; simple and streamlined. I think media center by far was the best... but its age is showing- lack of search bar and favourites bar is a killer.
Best system is a customised XP or Mac OSX Tiger...but that was before Leopard. Leopard by my books = near perfection, just needs a new more consistant theme.

Your take on the new Control Panel is only an opinion, and can easily vary. To me the new Control Panel is much more efficient, and if you don't like it there's a big, clear tab that says "Classic" that is similar to the pre-Vista Control Panels. Something is wrong if you find [link] or [link] too difficult to navigate.

Whether or not Aero looks good is also opinionated, and it doesn't bother my laptop's 128MB Radeon x1600 at all. If you don't like it turn it off or use Windowblinds.

Yes it was opinion. Opinionated is such a dirty word, please do not patronise me. Everything written here is opinion. I tried to give a balanced overall assessment.
I don't hate vista, just I prefer alternatives out there. (But hey, as a Mac fanboy I'll bag it out )
I used Vista for three months (which I think is fair) before opting out... due to minor frustrations and day-to-day annoyances.
Control panel- here's the scenario... I just want the 'device manager' so that I can fix a driver issue with a currently incompatible scanner. If you know how to reach it easily (within 10 seconds) then you deserve a cookie.
On the surface it looks easy, but its not... until you have the 'know-how' I guess.
In relation to disabling Aero... It still aint pretty IMHO. The extra oversized window borders serve little purpose, and the explorer still feels a little cluttered (which you agree). Yes it can be customized... but so can everything with every OS. Im simply referring to the out of the box experience as I believe this is the best way to give a fair assessment.
Also I agree- the high system spec thing for aero is largely hype. I ran vista on an old dinosaur (a T-Rex if you must know) and it ran fine.
As for dialogues... yes, security advisor can be disabled, the frequent dialogues however due to adhering to slightly crummy software design, cannot. For example- the first time Office 2007 is ran, you have to sit through 5 minutes of dialogues (this may be a Mac fanboy exaggeration but still) before you can start using the damn thing.
Yes they just want to make sure they've covered everything (A Microsoft philosophy perhaps), but its just annoying. Open up Pages on the Mac first time, click 'accept agreement' and you're in (from memory). No license codes, registration, activation or extra setup feautrettes... Im sure there's a good reason for it all, but... I just don't like it. Opinion, yes, but shared by many. And Majority rules my friend.
Hey....I like Aero. Left it on and I've had Vista for 6 months. I have Windowblinds on my XP machine but have felt no need to change Vista.
As for the UAC...that thing was turned off within 10 mins of getting Vista. More trouble than it's worth.
I can agree with both ends, here.
Vanilla Vista is... a bit over-the-top in some cases.
The UAC is bloody annoying, and while it'd definitely be good for a computing newbie (and indeed most linux distro's have had it for ages, nobody complains there 
), but you -can- turn it off!
Aero is quite pretty, and if you don't like it, you can turn the transparencies off (and the DWM itself makes for a much nicer experience, a la quartz on OS X).
Or use windowblinds (A pity, because uxtheme skinning isn't too advanced, yet, and there isn't as much talent as there was in XP. yet.
Control panel - AGH get it back to classic mode frigging NOW.
I don't feel it's cluttered, indeed, less so if you get used to the instant search, for finding programs
As for hardware incompatibilities, most of them are fixed, though it wasn't very good at V's release(as you'd expect), but there are one or two software failures I've come across. One is System Shock 2 (noes ;_
and the other is Phantasy Star Online (which is really annoying because I've only just got the chance to play it and I frigging can't).
Oh, as for device manager: either winkey and pause/break, click on device manager (3 seconds) or go to control panel and type in device ))
EDIT: Whether leopard is better is a different argument, but to be honest I've never liked macs from more than a visual standpoint (The hanging gear's by the gallows)
Vista really need a power full hardware. XP is more better. Only good view in term of GUI for Vista compare to XP.

Because Pentium M is such powerful hardware! 
...though coming from Singapore it might be. I've talked to Malaysians who act like a Pentium Dual-Core is high quality shit.
I run my (admittedly dual-core) processor at 25%, so my fan is near-silent.
25% of 2.2GHz is .55GHz, and vista still runs like a dream.
Admittedly I'm using over a GB of RAM just browsing the web and with IRC open <_<;
but whatever, vista's hardware requirements (apart from the RAM, but people don't get why) are massivly overstated. Like Crysis'.
Having said that, RAM is dirt cheap, and my gfx card is low end and a few generations old, and well above what the DWM needs.
I have a Mac(leopard), Desktop(Vista), Another Desk(XP), Laptop(XP).
I think the only thing you need to like vista is when you have appropriate vista version and the appropriate hardware!
The Laptop which i am talking about is downgraded to XP because i feel that Vista was slow on that system.
But the desk which has vista has decent hardware to support the home premium version.
I like VISTA... but i love my mac.
