Microsoft Midori (The End of Windows?)

Well, we do know that Microsoft is working on Windows 7 and is scheduled to be released late 2009 or early 2010. Also, Microsoft is working on Windows 8 as well which there is currently no information about it.

However, Microsoft has a new secret operating system that has been in the works which is called "Microsoft Midori" or "Midori" for short, and with this new operating system from Microsoft, it can possibly end the development of Windows. Midori won't use the Windows code and will run on native hardware (x86, x64, ARM). Currently, Microsoft Midori is in its incubation phase.

Microsoft Midori will take shape in a cloud.

People who honestly keep complaining that Windows ripped off OS X just annoy me. They all take ideas the other one uses, it's to keep a strong business. Just because it has a search function, honestly, that's pretty sad. I'm pretty damn sure that Apple has ripped off things that Microsoft has done in the past.

Anyways, it's pretty sad to see the end, but I'm pretty interested in this, as I definitely want to see how this runs or how revolutionary it is.

Yeah its kind of sad that the Windows era will end shortly. I mean to some people, Windows saved their butts. However, if Microsoft Midori ends up to be more secure, less bloated, and more efficient than Windows, then the change is good right? Nothing is going to last forever.

That is also incorrect. They did however take ideas from 3rd party software and Linux distros.

Instant search has been available for quite a while before Apple implemented it into Tiger. Microsoft released it's MSN search from beta about the same time Apple released Tiger.

Dashboard is almost exactly like Konfabulator, which copied Desktop X' widgets.

I don't see a resemblance between iCal and Windows Calendar, aside from the fact that they are calendar-managing apps. Same with SunBird. There aren't but so many ways to make a calendar.

Windows 3 had a 3D chess game just like the current one, albeit lower graphic capabilities.

Time Machine is basically a spit-shined version of backups that are in nearly every operating system, and not as efficient as those UNIX-related storage things. (I can't think of what they're called. A friend of mine sells them to corporations.)

Vista's GUI is clearly nothing like OS X' to anyone who has eyes. It obviously has a glass theme going on whereas OS X has a plastic/metal one.

"Spaces" have been around in Linux distros since the 90's, and I would bet all the money in my wallet that when Windows 7 rolls around with virtual desktops the mactards will scream that Microsoft stole it from Apple.

Of course I'm an Apple fanboy, but I don't let that fanboyism make me ignorant to solid facts.

He didn't say that Microsoft WAS doing those things. He's talking about the future Microsoft Operating System which will be an internet OS. Trust me, if they make an internet OS it will include mostly everything Levi said, except for ads and the computer dictation/not owning a computer parts.

I honestly wouldn't have a problem with it though. Levi seems to think that internet-based OS' run on the computer as the main OS, when it's really just an Operating System that runs in a web browser inside of another OS. I already use iCloud OS and it's great for what its meant for; a reliable, stable OS that can be accessed from anywhere so that I can have access to all of my files whenever I need them. I think Microsoft knows that while they owned the 90's and 2000's Apple is going to be the king of the future, so they would be much better suited as a secondary OS.

I disagree, there, I think Windows, whichever way it goes, is likely to be a market leader, simply because most apps that are used by componies are windows only. There may be alternatives, but few will find them. Plus I love windows <3

But if their internet OS was able to run said business applications (OS X can, so I don't see why MS' OS wouldn't) then Microsoft would succeed just fine as a cloud. Then companies would only need a great network and internet connection rather than expensive, high-end hardware.

I agree with you, everything has been 'ripped off' and named their. Is true, can't denied. Apple rips Microsoft good ideas, Microsoft rips Apple's good ideas and the same thing Linux. But I'm not an Apple Extreme fan or a Windows hater. I liked both OS.

1- Well, there's the Sidebar Widgets and their gadgets, Vista has it, when it was released in 2006, but Tiger had it way back then, in 2005, something called 'Dashboard' and their 'widgets'

2-On Vista's start menu, you can see a search box, and anything you type in that box, Vista shows it, like pictures, music, programs etc. Similarity with OSX? Well on Tiger there was a little thing called Spotlight, that did the same thing. (I know that XP had the 'Search' option, but this is more fast and accurate)

3-The 'new' Live Photo gallery, with let you zoom you're pictures, organize them , edit them, etc. Very similar to iPhoto, a program that has been in OSX for years!

4-Compare the graphics of early versions of Windows with early versions of Mac, almost the same thing, why? because Gates wanted his products look like Mac.

5-Apple released 'Quicktime' in 1991, Microsoft produced 'Video for Windows' in 1992.

6-The famous iPod, Microsoft's version? The Zune, but, after all, the iPod has been ripped off too much so, it doesn't count.

I know plenty of more reasons but I won't say more 'cause I don't have time.

No, Apple had desktop accessories. They're a completely different kind of application from widgets, even though some widgets' usage is similar. Apple only had a calculator and two or three other things anyways, then Microsoft came along using widgets in Windows 3.x or OS/2 I believe that could use the internet for information and track computer usage and whatnot.

How hilarious, I contradicted everything mentioned in your argument nearly two days before you replied to me. I'm not going through the trouble again. I also love how you're telling me this as if I don't know what I'm talking about. I've been using Mac OS since System 7, so trust me, if Vista was a rip off of OS X or other Apple OS' I would be one of the first to know.

And the Zune? Who cares about that, it isn't part of Vista. If you actually used one you would find that it is indeed nothing like an iPod in functionality anyways. Unless of course anything with the ability to play music is an iPod copycat. In that case the iPod must be a copy of the 1998 MPMan.
