WOO HOO... im here to help the skinnin community while i have it.... ill hook ya all up with screenies... i have a chpice of 10.2 or the 10.3 preview edition, i think im goni to take the 10.2<--- MORE STABLE :own:
Ibook In The Next 2 Weeks
gahh get the 10.3!!!!!!!!! who cares about stability!!!!!!!!!!
haha.... dude.. i wanna stable laptop, im ditching my vaio laptop for it.. so i want a nice latop.. its a ibook, 500 ghz 384 ram, 2 batteries, apple mouse vid cables exti really need a airport card if one of ya has one? lemme know!
I have an iBook G3 500Mhz 576MB Ram w/ the cheap 8MB video card.
Runs 10.2.6 ok... as for 10.3 preview... don't have a copy.
I am willing to scrub my exisisting to test 10.3, but don't know how/where to get one.
As I said though, 10.2.6 runs o.k., 10.2.4 ran great, I noticed a significant slowdown when I went to 10.2.6
My suggestion, stick with 10.2.6 and get more memory.
500 model? Get Panther! Do NOT even try Jaguar, lest your mouth is soured permanently by the experience.
Panther on a 500 iBook should about as fast as jaguar on a 900MHz iBook.

I knew the Panther Preview was running faster than Jaguar, but this much? Crikey.
I look forward to the preliminary benchmarks when Panther Final is released - using the criteria below, my iBook 900 G3 should work more like a 1.2GHz G4. And that, my friends, would be fun. ![]()

As long as you load up on RAM, ALL Panther-supported Macs (check the list at the Apple website. Not sure where exactly) should run Panther great.
Remember, in UNIX OS's, ram is your best friend. ![]()

You guys are forgetting this is 500 GHZ
Well im writting this on my ibook, im happy, i fianlly got it!!! WOOHOO!!!!
My iBook only came with OS 9 CD's... I think the guys at CompUSA "barrowed" the OSX CD and never put it back, as Apple said it was part of the bundle.
Box was open and it was the last one they had.
CompUSA claims that everything was there and denied removing anything when I noticed it was missing.
Funny thing, 10.0 was pre-installed on the laptop when I turned it on.
I just wanted to do a clean install without OS 9 and all the other crap.
I went and bought a copy of 10.2, since Apple refused to send me a replacement copy of the "pre-installed" software bundle even after providing proof of purchase, so I don't have any benchmarks on the older 10.1.* builds as I went straight from 10.0, which sucked to 10.2.
If 10.3 runs better than 10.2.4 or 10.2.6 on my G3 500, then I may give it a try.
