Here is my problem.
When i try to install jaguar on my g3 imac dv/400mhz, it displays the apple logo
and the spinning wheel thingy for about 5 mins, then it displays this message
"the installer has unexpectedly quit due to an unexpected error, exit code 0."
i have installed the firmware update,and i'm running os x 10.0.4 with 9.2.2.
this happens over and over and .. well you get the picture.
Need some help guys.
put the installer cd in the drive and press C while booting up.
already tried that, same thing happens.
Is the installer cd authentic? 
And are there many scratches on the CD?
Those are the only two problems I can think of.
Maybe you should ask at a mac forum too (Spymac or other)..
disc is kinda, okay it's got some mad scratches on it.
but that shouldn't prevent it from loading.

Acutally, it should prevent from loading. I think that is the very problem that is preventing booting.
I've heard good stuff about removing scratches by cleaning CD's with white toothpaste. Maybe you should check it out..
Or try copying the CD to your drive as an ISO image, then burn onto a new disc..?
if it cant boot, ripping it to an ISO would just copy the errors.
Yeah, white toothpaste works great. Its saved a lot of my discs.

why would it copy the 'errors'? Aren't the 'errors' just scratches?
Why don't you just download jaguar form the numerous sites out there or fron p2p clients, and use disc-copy to burn it (if you don't have a burner u can do it on any mac that has)???

tried everything, it just wouldn't work. borrowed a friends disc, same thing.
reached the end of my wits.

so your friend's install disc didn't work either? 
Taha: an ISO is a bit for bit copy of a CD. If the CDROM drive cant read the disc because of errors, it would just copy the errors on, because the actual data is unreadable.
I don't think it's the CD. I have read several Apple forums about this where the experts with Mac OS X and Macs discuss these type of things...
1. Go to the Apple Support page... you might find some help there...
2. Kernel Panic: Mac OS X is very tough on the memoory, If it isn't EXACTLY right, Mac OS X will have sex w/ it self, err. I mean kernel panic... :shy:
3. It very well could be that the CDs are broken, are they pireted? Burned CDs don't read as well as stamped CDs.
I have a freind, he was able to install Panther on his iMac, and it was an old one. 400 MHz, 128 MB RAM... I have Mac OS 10.1.2 (not panther, but it gets the job done) but NO mac to install it on, consider yourself Lucky :rule:
i'm done.
os x 10 is quite buggy on this system. might have to live with this for
a while. sucks big time.
tried the iso thing also, no dice.
