[help] With Patching The Uxtheme.dll!

Hey guys, i need some help with patching the uxtheme.dll

I do everything well `till the 7th step and then i get stuck

7) Assuming your system directory is c:\windows\system32 go into the

directory c:\windows\system32. Rename uxtheme.dll to uxtheme.bak or

some other name. Copy uxtheme.pat to uxtheme.dll.

What does Copy uxtheme.pat to uxtheme.dll. means? How can i copy uxtheme.pat to uxtheme.dll when i renamed uxtheme.dll to .bak? What does this line mean? What should i do once i get to the 7th step?

I did what i thought it should be done (i just renamed uxtheme.pat to uxtheme.dll)and rebooted but when i unistalled StyleXp it all returned to LunaBlue theme. Then i tried to choose PumaPro but it showed Classic. I can pick themes only from DisplayProps Themes window but when i choose any theme i just get the classic theme (all themes are in C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes)!

What did i do wrong? When i try to run uxthemepatcher.exe it says that uxtheme is allready pathced! :cry: :shy:

it says to rename uxtheme.dll to uxtheme.bak essentially making a backup

then a better way of putting the 7th step would be to rename uxtheme.pat to uxtheme.dll

all this is assuming you know how to avoid the windows file protection.

are you on sp1? you could try another patcher. i have several if you want them.

you can also use replacer to replace the dll file. i'm pretty sure this is listed in the application's database. replacer

@preducer: well, i opened up the dll in reshack, and it says 2800, 1106, so i assume its version 2800, build 1106. if you want the files, i can send them to you. just give me an email or some icq or msn contact.

@unbeliever: i hope you get the uxtheme.dll all patched up. it's infinitely better than style xp. if you want, i can send you the patchers too.

i dunno if i`m stupid or what!

i dloaded replacer, patched uxtheme, rebooted but when i uninstalled stylexp i got luna Blue. In display properties\themes was a list of themes but whatever theme i choose i just got classic. In appereance i can choose only windows xp and classic style. All themes are in C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes. I`m using non SP1. Dunno what`s wrong! :shy:

if i remember correctly from when i used to use stylexp when you uninstall it it replaces whatever uxtheme file there is there with the original. so whats happening is your patching an already patched file and then when you get rid of stylexp its deleting that file. try patching uxtheme AFTER you've got rid of style xp. it'll work then

yeah, to me it sounds like style xp will put the old dll back during the uninstallation. so patching before the uninstallation will make no difference.

you could also try this. to make sure you really installed the theme, just double click the msstyles file and try to apply it that way. sometimes patched systems don't show any themes in the appearance dialog.

but there's a fix for that! just make sure the folder name is the same as the file's name. e.g. if you're using xxx.msstyles, make sure the folder it's in is called xxx.

if all of this doesn't work, i'll send you the patcher that i sent to preducer. i know that one works.

of course, if you're looking to manually hack the dll, that's cool too. :own:
