So I really hate to plug my own site here or anywhere, but I just wrote something that I think is really keen, and I want all sorts of people to read it...

Hmm, only American(ish) Directors... leaves me with no-one to vote for 
Ditto... i'd vote terry gillian(sp?)... for making brazil and for almost making don quixote.
damn, i'm gonna go vote anyways... too bad the american dir. start with some good movies and then quickly go to pot. Too much coke and ____ after they get loaded.

The Monthy Python people (Terry Gillian, also made the Fisher King w/ Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams!) are great.
There are quite a few European directors out there...

I think Polanski is not american, he is from the Eastern Europe. He can't even enter the States because he was accused of murder or similar. That's why he never goes to the Oscars ceremony...

Spilbergs prob is the damn need for morals, im getting sick everytime more about him wanting to teach humanity something nice an soft about people!!
Kubrick would be in the poll, and I would have voted for him myself, but he is not living right now.
yeah, that's a bummer, plus he was really losing his edge towards the end there...
a thin red line was good but not that good
and eyes wide shut may have been screwed by his death, but i think it would have been only a little less weak if he had seen it through. You can only push for so long.
(on the other hand, if you watch the whole movie thinking that he's making fun of tom cruise and kidman from the grave, twisting it in, it makes for a really good watch).

Well, I voted Woody Allen.
At TwisetCPU we were having a discussion on best movies of all time, and I voted for "Crimes and Misdemeanors". It really captures emotion better than any movie Ive seen. I also think "Hannah and her Sisters" is very well directed, it also comes off "real".
And of course, "Annie Hall" is a classic. Im sure Goku would like it.
I know other directors have made some great movies, but he is the only one that makes me think and laugh consistantly. Really genious.
I didn't know about his new movie, thanks for the heads up ClockWise.

Actually the poll came from a conversation I had about who the best living film director was. I thought that Kubrick WAS the best living director. But I couldn't figure out who assumed that distinction when Kubrick died..
I finnaly voted for Scorcese but it was close for me to choose Altman, the Player was really something interesting, that 11 minutes shoot was very impressing to watch, it's something you don't see these days, why?? The digital era makes it much easier to edit and movies have gone back to what they were in 1895, simply something to watch.
Polanski, Scorcese, Altman and Allen these people make movies but in a good way, unlike Spielberg
A good film director will be able to tell this to the audience: You are watching My movie, not any movie! it's from Me!
Speilberg's movies are gonna tell you this: You are watching a commercial research established by some commitees that judge that this kind of movie is gonna make money!
How can you tell it's Spielberg???
