Curved Corners App?

would anyone here be interested in an app that creates curved mac-os-x style "corners" on the screen? it would give the desktop a more "mac" feel, since the curved corners are a default part of macs...

also

I know OS 9 has aliased corners

does OS X have anti-aliased ("smoothed") corners?

I'd use it!

#50426

would look something like this:

xcorners.gif

*** edit: the only thing you'd get would be the corners. the menubar and its shadow, and the icon ... are just there to simulate a desktop :]

#50439

Most definately. If you can make it Alpha-blended too it would be even better... no more jaggy edges. (Y)

Those curved corners are an OS9 thing. On OSX it's part of the menubar it'self. And in OSX they are only at the top of the desktop.

#50441

look at the pic again - added a black border to better simulate what you'd see with a monitor..

I know OS X has them only on the top, and that they're more of an OS9 thing ... but it would be cool. I always liked how it made my screen seem "softer".

and this *is* possible -- just look at MobyDock. it could be done by drawing the PNGs to the corners of the screen... only thing is, it might eat up a few resources keeping them redrawn and on top all the time.... havnt tried coding anything yet, but if I did, I'd be lame and do it in VB, most likely

No need to get defensive, I'm just telling you the facts. In OSX the curved corners at the top are part of the system appearence. So you could have a theme that has no curved corners at the top. Max Rudberg's Aqua Extreme squared is an example of this as it has no curved corners in the menubar.

#50453

this is theme independant though... its just like ... stolen idea from mac ... not reallyyyy aqua ..hehe... just trying to make windows not suck so much.

my server is acting funny, so dont freak out if you dont see the image sometimes.

#50483

Xero made an amazing panther brused theme for WB4 with all the corners rounded, try it!

#50498

yea, i love smooth corner, since xp doesnt have a smooth corner, i use background color to blend it, so it will be a bit smoother.

incase, for KoL's panther theme, use this rgb value on ur desktop.

Well if you think having it theme dependent makes a system suck then you must think OSX sucks. =p heh

if windows had anything *close* to aqua, this forum wouldnt exist ;]

#50673

I wasn't even talking about windows. I was talking about what MacOSX does versus what MaOS9 does.

#50680

yeah... what I mean is like ... I LOVE os x (aqua), and the mac OS (9 and 10). if windows or its GUI were as good as either.... we wouldnt be trying to copy it :]

so with my corners app, I'm taking a thing from OS9, giving it an OSX feel (anti-aliased), and throwing it at windows.. so windows doesnt suck so much. I'm not exactly trying to "emulate" a certain feature, as seen with other apps posted here. this is only mac related because I got the idea from OS9...then thought it'd be prettier if it was smooth.

I can do aliased corners... but this is ugly, and its been done.... so currently I'm looking into ways of keeping 4 anti-aliased images (PNGs) on the screen, on top, and redrawn at all times. I have an old PNG displaying library for VB, but this only draws PNGs to an app -- it doesnt draw it to the screen :( and even if I could haxx0r it to do that, I doubt it'd work too well, as it would "build up" and eventually appear aliased.

how does mobydock draw its icons?...I bet its done with C++ anyway :\
