The Secret to make RKLauncher lighter in memory

Just a little tip, for those who don't really have that much of RAM.

Most of the people have RK Launcher using 8.000K to 10.000K in memory. As you can se by this screenshot, in my computer it is using way less than that:

But how do I do it? Here are some easy steps:

1. Use a superlight theme for RK Launcher.

By following this step you will be basically using no theme at all. I kinda like it that way, so i think you will not hate it. I haven't uploaded it, because i don't think it is necessarry, you can create your own, but if you really need it I can upload it easly

First lets start by copying your "Default" theme in the Themes folder of RK Launcher. You can now rename the new copy to what ever you want. Now lets create a new picture:

I used photoshop, but you don't need such an advanced application, all you need is to create a 1x1px gif file, and save it in the brand new theme folder you just copied. Save it as theme.gif.

Now you have to edit the configuration file of the theme to make it use the new gif file you created. Inside the RKlauncher theme folder you will find the file "theme.conf". Open it with notepad and search for all the "image=" entries. All you have to do is replace the file name in front of it with "theme.gif" (or whatever it was you named it) and repeat this with all the "image=" entries. Save the theme.conf file and exit notepad.

Now you can go to RK Launcher options and use the new theme. You should now have only some floating icons, no background. If you don't like it that's just to bad.

2. Make your PNG icons smaller

I see lots and lots of people using HUGE PNG icons with their docks. This is the most obvious reason for your dock being so heavy. How to fix it? Easy:

First you will need to have some software to resize you icons, unless you want to resize them one by one. I use FastStone Photo Resizer, wich you can download here:

After downloading and installing it, open it and surf to the icons folder of RK Launcher and press "Add All". Then go to the advanced settings at set the new size to the max size of you Dock, after magnified (if youre not sure go to RKL config and check the magnification size), mine is 93 so i resized all my icons to 93x93px.

After doing this my RK Launcher got really light and i'm very prowd of it

I know RAM's valuable and all but all that for for 4 or 5mb? Unless you have something like 64 or 128mb (Don't know about you but the last PC that i had with that amount was 7 years ago) it seems a tad overkill in memory saving.

But I'm all for optimising so good work anyway.

I've stopped having the dock zoom when moused over.. rather just used to 'dock' the shortcuts. In this scenario, I suppose you could 'photoshop' in a dock background onto your wallpaper for the perception of a dock background

Yeah, this seemed like a bit of overkill, the only necessity I see in helping RK Launcher performance would be to get rid of magnification, it uses up tons of CPU.

In the 90's it was common to see people overreacting when an application was using more RAM than usual even tho free RAM was still there.

I think it is funny to see this kind of worry nowadays when system manages RAM better than ever and RAM in most of the cases is not an issue anymore.
