Graphics Help!

Hello Everyone.

I have had a problem with my graphics card (GeForce 4 Ti4400) for sometime now.

I have been busy so i have set it aside but i would like to pursue it once again.

My card used to work on Windows 2000 when i started out but when i upgraded to XP it stopped working. By this i mean that it gets to the boot up screen and then freezes/ goes black. I have all the nVidia drivers and my card runs just fine on my old WinME system which of course is a piece of crap and a severe waste of the card. I am now running on a 16 MB Voodoo (ANCIENT). Any help is appreciated.

System Specs (I built it last August):

P4 2.0 Ghz

768 MB PC2100 DDR RAM

(2) 80 GB HDD = 160 GB

SOYO Dragon Ultra Motherboard

Chaintec Geforce 4 Ti4400 128 MB

Windows XP build 2600

Mandrake 9.1

17" LCD Flatpanel SyncMaster 171s

is this an agp or pci card?

did you clean out the old drivers?

maybe there's an irq conflict.

It was straight after a format and it is an AGP card....

you said "straight after a format" so i'm thinking you installed the card after you formatted the hard drive. maybe you could try keeping the graphics card in there, and then doing a clean install of xp.

if the card works, it seems like an incompatibility issue with xp.

irq = interrupt request

basically it's a way of signalling the processor to stop and deciding what to do next. sometimes devices fight each other, i.e. irq conflict.

for example, agp and pci slot 1 share an irq, so it's usually best to leave the first pci slot free.

can you do a clean install of xp by booting from the cd?
