Some Realworld G5 Benchmarks Starting To Appear...

Hi all,

I was just browsing around some tech sites on the Web and came across this: http://www.theandyzone.com/Computer/shootout.html

It's a PowerMac dual processor G4, single processor G5 VS single processor AthlonXP +2000 shootout and the results are quite interesting.

It's done using a graphics/video processing benchmarking tool called "CineBench" and the AthlonXP tends to win, alot!

OMG that is like.. so fast! (Y) heard that in one of the tests apple tweaked the G5 to run slower and the PCs to run faster but the G5 won anyway..

Here's another realworld benchmarking: http://www.barefeats.com/g5sum02.html

BIG CAVEAT: Cinebench 2003 is NOT optimized for the G5... yet. Richard Kurz of the Maxon Mac development lab predicts the G5/2GHz MP (after optimizations) should achieve a CB rating as high as 500, which would make it equal to the Dual Xeon 2.4GHz.

Taha,

Yes, I read that also. So, when G5 optimizations appear, and you and I both know that will be awhile, Apple's latest offering will be equal to a Intel Xeon 2.4 GHz.

And Intel will be offering god knows what by then.

The whole problem I have with Apple at the moment, actually I've had this problem with it for awhile now, is their marketing tactics.

The world's fastest personal computer

I personally feel they really need to drop that lie, because it's just that a lie.

I personally do not like being lied to consistently by anyone.

hmm.. the G5 is fastest of the macs [of course!] but it's facing some tough competition from the PCs [Xeon and Athlon]..
