After watching the episode of Futurama where Leela starts killing everyone, and takes Bender out by breaking a microwave door and starting it, i thought: "what if that really happened?".
So, AS, what would happen if you started a microwave with a cracked door? Would things melt or something?
LOL!! when i was a teenager (many, many moons ago), this total burn-out stoner kid i knew had taken the door off his microwave (cuz it broke) and had stuck a fork in the door switch so the microwave would think the door was on and closed. he'd be cooking shit in there and turning it over by hand with the microwave still running and he'd be all like, 'ouch! damn!' funny shit.
Things wouldn't melt. A lot of water would boil though, if it got in the way. You do know your body is 70% water

If the plastic is broken, you would be OK (unless of course it is broken where it should be sealed on the edges). What is protecting the waves from escaping the oven is the metal grate that you see through the window. If that became cracked, I believe the only repercussions, to people, would be burns. The severity depends on how long, and how much you are exposed to.

Microwaves have a lower frequency, and therefore a lower amount of energy, than visible light. Since visible light doesn't fry people's brains (if it did, I wouldn't be typing this), the amount of energy in microwaves is too low, and nothing should happen. Same with wireless internet, radio waves, TV broadcast waves, and AC current.

yes, but back then, microwave design was quite different. instead of the fancy lcd touch panels you kids got, our microwaves required a team of "switch girls" to operate the levers, pulleys and, of course, switches necessary to program the microwave. talk about complicated, don't even get me started on 'popcorn mode'!!
