just a quick one, has anyone got a clue how to stop outlook express from bringing up the dam* stupid old ass windows messeger icon to the systemtray? i already have an msn messenger which works more than perfect for me. i don't need an extra icon on the tray... thanks a lot, dudes... ![]()
[help] Dam*, It's Outlook Again...
i used zonealarm to deny windows messenger from accessing the internet.. so that at least it wouldn't interfere with msn messenger. worst part was that it [w.m.] started without an icon in the system tray for me.
just remove it!
here's how --> http://www.tweakxp.com/display.aspx?id=487
this will only remove windows messenger, NOT msn messenger.
just remove the map of messenger in the program files folder
and you will never have any problem again with messenger ![]()
you can't rename the folder, i heard, so create a new folder in the directory and move everything in there.

ya cane do that also but if you just delete ![]()
but windows would add it back from the backup folder thingy.
open up the run window from the start menu and type in this
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
to get rid of windows messenger
just wonder if you looked in options cause you dont know how many people on msn asked me and they never looked there first lol, btw whats so wrong with messenger we all lub it
eh Timan.. which version of Outlook Express are you using?
b'cause mine doesn't display those properties.
it is there in OE 6
i guess i didn't quite make myself clear in the first place. what i really mean in fact is - i did uncheck that option, yeah, which stopped windows messenger from loggin' in. however, the system tray icon remains in the tray showing windows messenger, which is, of course, unlogged with that tiny cross thingy. it looks so bulky cos i already have an msn messenger there,i don't need the wm icon cos i usually only need one. but i DO wanna keep the windows messenger because it allows me to use two accounts at the same time.
so here is the question again, can i start outlook express without starting also the windows messenger? simple as that, can i do it without removing the wm? there's gotta be a way.. help...
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
Download Startup control panel, install it and then look for 'Startup' in the control panel. Open it and uncheck MSN and it will not load, no tray icon or anything. I've been using this for ages as my main startup monitor.
Very good little program.
reghack: regedit >
registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express
create the value name:
data type: REG_DWORD [Dword Value] // Value Name: Hide Messenger
value data: [2 = messenger will not load]
exit registry and reload
